
CANTON — Canton fell behind early as Wellsboro topped them 14-4 in six innings during NTL softball action Thursday.
The Hornets led 7-1 after one, while the Warriors out scored them 2-1 in the second to make it 8-3. Wellsboro tacked on another run in the third, then finished with three more in the fifth for a 12-3 lead midway through that inning.
Canton got one back in the bottom half, but the Hornets shut the door with two runs in the sixth for a 14-4 final.
Trinity Acla (1-for-3) had an RBI while Tara Gilbert (1-for-3) also had a hit. Addi Pepper, Alyssa May, Cyra Hugo, and Tiffany Acla all scored runs.
Jaylee Ward took the loss, going six innings with seven strikeouts, four walks, 13 hits, and 14 runs, four of which were earned.
In the first Pepper drew a walk then scored on a passed ball later in the inning.
In the second Hugo led off with a walk, followed by Tiffany Acla reaching on an error. Trinity Acla scored Hugo to make it 8-2.
Tiffany Acla then scored on a passed ball for an 8-3 score.
For Canton’s final run May reached on an error, then scored on a passed ball.
Canton (3-13) will be at Troy on Saturday.
