NTL BASEBALL: TROY'S FAST START PROPELS THEM PAST CANTON (2025-05-10)

CANTON — Troy used a strong start to roll past Canton, 16-0 in four innings, during NTL baseball action Saturday.

The second of a double-header for the Trojans they pounded out 13 hits in the game as they scored 11 in the first, and five more in the fourth.


Reed Palmer (3-for-4) had two doubles, a home run, 4-RBI, and three runs scored, with Lincoln Chimics (2-for-3) getting a double with three runs scored.


Mason Smith (2-for-4) had a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI, as Trey Teribury (2-for-3) scored twice, and drove in a run.


Joseph Frye (1-for-2) had a double, 2-RBI, and a run scored, with Evan Woodward (1-for-2) scoring twice. 


Logunn Heasley (1-for-3) scored, and drove in a run, with Camden Allen (1-for-3) getting 2-RBI. Brendan Gilliland crossed home twice, as well.


Allen went three innings to get the win, striking out three with one walk, and one hit. Frye went the final inning, with two strikeouts, one walk, and one hit.


Ben Fitch (1-for-2) and Reed Taylor (1-for-2) had the two Canton hits.


Bailey Gardner got the start, going one-third of an inning with one strikeout, two walks, two hits, and six runs, five of which were earned.


Taylor went the next two-thirds with two walks, three hits, and five unearned runs.


Fitch tossed 2 2/3-innings with two strikeouts, six hits, and four unearned runs. Zach Colton pitched the final third, with one strikeout, two hits, and one earned run.


Smith opened the game with a triple, followed by Gilliland getting hit by a pitch. Palmer then doubled in Smith and Gilliland for a 2-0 lead.


Chimics then brought in Palmer, followed by Frye earning a walk. After an out Chimics would score on an error for a 4-0 ballgame’s ame.


Woodward would draw a walk, setting up Teribury’s hit that brought in Frye. An error off the bat of Heasley plated Woodward, followed by Teribury scoring on a Smith hit for a 7-0 ball game.


After a second out an error off the bat of Palmer brought in Heasley to make it 8-0. Chimics and Frye drew back to back walks, allowing Smith to score to make it 9-0.


Allen then singled in Palmer and Chimics for the final two runs of the inning.


In the fourth Woodward led off with a hit, followed by Teribury reaching on an error. Heasley would single in Woodward to make it 12-0, while Teribury would steal home for a 13-0 ball game.


Gilliland would draw a walk, setting up Palmer’s 2-run home run to make it 15-0. 


Chimics followed that with a double, then scored on a Frye double for the 16-0 final.


Troy (12-5) hosts Sayre on Monday with a 4:30 p.m. start, while Canton (6-11) is out at Wyalusing.
