NTL SOFTBALL: CANTON FALLS TO MONTGOMERY IN HIGH SCORING THRILLER (2025-05-16)

CANTON — Canton softball’s final game of the season ended up with a football score as they fell to Montgomery, 19-15, in non-league action Friday.

It was 5-5 after with the Warriors taking a 9-8 lead into the third inning. The Raiders would go up 12-11 after three, then used a 6-run fourth to take an 18-11 lead.


Canton rallied in the fifth, scoring four runs to cut it to 18-15. Montgomery got an insurance run in the sixth for the 19-15 final.


Alyssa May (2-for-5) had a double, three runs scored, and 3-RBI, as Tara Gilbert (2-for-5) had a double, two runs scored, and 2-RBI.


Nevaeh Vroman (2-for-4) had a double with two runs scored, and 2-RBI, while Jaylee Ward (2-for-4) had a double while crossing home three times.


Charleigh Anderson (1-for-3), Cyra Hugo (1-for-2), and Audrey Bastion (1-for-3) all scored twice, as Tiffany Acla drove in two runs.


Acla started, and went an inning with five hits, and five runs, two of which were earned run. Gilbert then tossed an inning with four hits, and seven runs, three of which were earned.


Ward went the final five innings, striking out two with two walks, seven hits, and seven runs, five of which were earned.


Ward and May led off the first with back to back doubles, which allowed Ward to score. After an out Gilbert brought in May with an error off her bat to make it 5-2.


Hugo kept the inning going with a hit, followed by Acla driving in Gilbert with a ground out. Vroman then doubled in Hugo, followed by Vroman scoring on an error off the bat of Trinity Acla to make it 5-5.


In the second May reached on a 1-out error, followed by Anderson getting a hit. Gilbert then singled in May to make it 8-6.


Anderson would score on a passed ball, followed by Hugo drawing a walk. A Tiffany Acla ground out brought in Gilbert to tie the game up at 8-8.


Vroman then singled in Hugo for the 1-run lead.


In the third Bastion and Ward both got beaned to lead off the at bat. After an out both scored on steals of home to make it 12-11.


Bastion and Ward would lead off the fifth with back to back hits, followed by May singling both in to make it 18-13.


Anderson was then hit by a pitch, followed by Gilbert doubling in May. After a walk to Hugo Anderson would steal home to cut it to a 3-run game.


Canton, though, wasn’t able to mount a challenge in the sixth and seventh innings.


The Warriors finish the season 3-17.
