TOWANDA — For the past three years Towanda’s Riley Vanderpool has been a 2-way stalwart for the Black Knight football team. This fall Vanderpool will be taking his game to Lycoming College.

“I can’t wait to play football next year and get to know a lot more people,” said Vanderpool.

He liked Lycoming from the beginning, and felt that was his best chance to grow.

“They gave me a good scholarship,” Vanderpool remarked. “And they’d help me get through college more than any other place would have.”

Also a standout wrestler, Vanderpool had a pretty big choice to make for the next level.

“I would probably have chosen football over anything because I love the sport,” he said. “But if I have a chance to (wrestle), I might do it.”

Vanderpool sees himself as being an athlete at the next level, much the same way he was for Towanda.

“Just wherever they want me to be,” he said.

However, don’t expect to see him at quarterback, and he’s just fine with that. Troy’s Evan Woodward signed to play for Lycoming, and Vanderpool is excited to team up with his rival.

“It’s kind of awesome,” he said. “It’s going to be a nice duo.”
