It was a rebuilding year for Wyalusing baseball, though they did have a few bright spots to take away from the 2025 season.
“The success of this year’s baseball team should not be measured by our record,” said coach Robert Galloway. “It should instead be measured by the improvement the team made throughout the season. Kenny Mapes got 100 hits, Hunter House got 200 strikeouts and the underclassmen made some huge improvements.”
Wyalusing finished 5-14 on the season, opening up with a tough slate as they went 0-3 against three playoff teams to start the year.
They would gut out a 1-0 win over Tunkhannock before falling in three more games.
A mid-season highlight was a 3-2 win over eventual District IV, Class A champions CV at home.
After close losses to Blue Ridge (10-7) and NP-Mansfield (5-0), they rolled past Williamson (17-7).
Another tough stretch saw them lose five straight, but did have a strong end to the season with wins over Sayre (3-0) and Canton (5-4).
They lost their final game of the year to Central Columbia (17-2).
Kenny Mapes hit .520 to lead the team with five doubles, four home runs, 10-RBI and 14 runs scored.
Isaac Shaffer scored 14 times with Marshall Huston crossing home 10 times. Logan Norton was second on the team with three doubles.
Hunter House tossed the lion’s share of innings - 42 1/3 - to strikeout 74 on the season against 25 walks with an ERA of 1.488.
Nobody else had more than 9 1/3-innings.
The team says good-bye key figures from their district title winning years in Mapes, House, and Shaffer, but the majority of their roster returns.
“We are going to work over the summer and into the fall to make more improvements with undersclassmen and the incoming freshman,” said Galloway. “We should be right back into the mix come winter workouts and ready for the spring season.”
