It was an exciting season in boys’ athletics for Bradford County, highlighted by Troy’s Ben Warburton earning a state medal.
Warburton was a state medalist in the long jump, while also qualifying for states in the 200. He was district champion in both events.
Warburton was also a big point scorer for the Trojans as they repeated as NTL Champions, earning him the Overall Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year honors.
Two area athletes stood out on the track - Sayre’s Marcos Quiros and NEB’s Creed Dewing. Both were state qualifiers - Quiros in the 200, Dewing in the 1600 - earning them the Co-Runners of the Year honors.
Athens’ Jace Babcock was a district champion in the high jump, while also having a strong season in the long and triple jumps, with Wyalusing’s Dylan Johns bringing home a state medal in the high jump. The two of them are the Co-Field Athletes of the Year.
Troy’s Joseph Frye was a senior, but decided to try out track this year and proved to be strong competitor in the jumps and sprints. He was a district qualifier in both, and helped the Trojans capture the NTL title, earning him the Newcomer of the Year honors.
The Relay of the Year is NEB’s 4x800 of Dewing, Ryan Jones, Brayden Miller, and Brody Bennett. They took sixth in the District IV Championships.
Troy’s coaching staff, led by Matt Geer, repeated as NTL champions, earning them the BC Coaching Staff of the Year.
