It was an exciting girls’ athletics season as several Bradford County athletes were able to come home with state hardware this year.
Troy’s Alyssa Parks was an all-around strong performer, earning a state medal in the 300 hurdles, just missing states in the pole vault, making districts in the high jump, and posting the second fastest 400 time in the county. That adds up to the Overall Female Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
Towanda’s Brynn Woodruff re-wrote the javelin record books for the Black Knights this season en route to a District IV title. She ended up taking silver at states, making her the Field Athlete of the Year.
Two runners stood out this year - NEB’s Gracelyn Laudermilch, and Athens’ Abby Burgess. Laudermilch was a 3-time state qualifier, taking home a medal in the 3200. Burgess was a 2-time state qualifier, taking home a medal in the 100. They are the Co-Runners of the Year.
Towanda’s Mary-Kate Eberlin came on strong for the Knights this season. She earned a district medal in the 800, and was a key contributor to their strong 4x800 relay, making her the Newcomer of the Year.
The Towanda 4x800 of Eberlin, Izzy Larson, Melody Hakes, and Kylee Barnes missed the state qualifying time by .01 seconds, but was the closest relay in the county to making states. They’re the Relay of the Year.
The Athens staff led by Michael Bronson kept their NTL titles streak alive this year (10 straight), holding off strong efforts from Wellsboro and Towanda to take the rain soaked championship. They’re the Coaching Staff of the Year.
