
WYSOX — It took extra innings but Towanda nipped Troy, 11-9 in seven innings, to advance in the District 15 Little League Majors Softball bracket Wednesday.
Towanda will now face Athens at Wysox on Friday with a 6 p.m. start.
It was all Troy early as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Towanda rallied in the third, scoring six runs to take a 1-run lead.
Troy tied it up in the fourth, while in the fifth Towanda out scored Troy 2-1 to go up 8-7. Troy got that one back in the bottom of the sixth to send it to extra innings.
Towanda made the most of their at bat, pushing three runs across in the top half of the seventh. Troy got one across early in the bottom half, with another runner on third, and tying run at the plate, but the Towanda defense held.
Nina Gallagher (3-for-4) had a double, a triple, 3-RBI and two runs scored for Towanda as Ava Martin (3-for-4) scored three times, and had 2-RBI.
Bristol Edsell (1-for-4) had a double with an RBI, as Camdyn Buford (1-for-2) scored twice.
Lily Bartholomew, Ellie Alderfer (1-for-3), and Elli Thompson all crossed home, as Bartholomew also had an RBI.
Burford went the distance, striking out five.
For Troy Blaklee Brown was perfect from the plate, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored, as Marley Palmer (2-for-4) had a double with 2-RBI.
Peyton Harkness (2-for-3) had a double with a run scored, and an RBI, as Savannah Ballard (1-for-1) scored twice, and drove in a run.
Blair Teribury (1-for-2) scored twice, as well.
Brown struck out 13 as she went the distance.
