THE SPORTS REPORTS: HORSEHEADS' HOLLOWAY NAMED 'BOYS ATHLETE OF THE SPRING;' FOUR BRADFORD COUNTY BOYS EARN ALL-REGION NOD (2025-07-24)

Senior Mason Holloway was nearly unhittable this season, leading Horseheads to a New York State, Class A title. He is The Sports Reports' 2025 "Boys Athlete of the Spring."

The Binghamton University commit, who was also The Sports Reports "Baseball Player of the Year" and "Pitcher of the Year," was 8-0 on the season with a 0.11 ERA — allowing only one earned run and 33 hits in 64 innings. He fanned 111 and did not walk a batter.

Holloway won the first game of the best-of-three Section IV finals, and recorded a save in the second game. He also notched wins in the Regional finals and the state semifinals.

He threw two perfect games this season, and also pitched five innings in a combined perfect game. In one of his perfect games, against Chesterfield, S.C., Holloway fanned 16 of the 21 batters he faced.

Offensively, Holloway hit .403 with nine extra base hits, 27 runs scored, and 23 RBI. He led Horseheads team in extra-base hits, home runs (two), triples (three), and was tied for the team lead in RBI.

Gavin Albrecht, junior, Tioga track & field: Albrecht achieved new heights — literally — to win a New York State title in the pole vault.

Albrecht went to States last year on the strength of a vault of 13-feet, 9-inches. This season, Albrecht set Tioga's school record at 14-feet, 7-inches, eventually winning state gold at 15-feet.

Albrecht was also a force in the 100-meter dash, and is closing in on the school record, and the long jump. He also ran on a successful 400-meter relay during the regular season.

Alex Davis, senior, North Penn-Mansfield baseball: Davis put up video game-like numbers at the plate for the 13-win Tigers.

He batted .516, getting on base at a .580 clip with 33 base hits, including four home runs and seven doubles, 34 RBI, 37 runs scored, and 22 stolen bases, while drawing 12 walks.

Ben Warburton, Troy track & field: Warburton was a District 4 champion in the long jump and 200-meter dash.

He also earned a fourth-place finish at the PIAA Championships in the long jump. He was also the team’s biggest point scorer at the NTL Championships.

Andrew Earley, senior, Tioga: Earley won the 110- and 400-meter hurdles, and was second in the triple jump at the IAC Championships. He won the 400 hurdles, was second in the 110 hurdles, and was fifth in the triple jump at the Class D Championships.

At the State Qualifier, Earley won the 400-meter hurdles, was third in the 110 hurdles, and eighth in the triple jump. Earley finished off his career with a fourth-place finish in the 400 hurdles at States.

Dylan Johns, Wyalusing track & field: Johns took sixth at the PIAA Championships in the high jump for the Rams to get on the state podium. He was also a point-scorer in the javelin and 4-by-100 relay.

Jase Babcock, senior, Athens: Babcock was a mainstay of Athens' point-getters this season in the long jump, triple jump. and high jump. He finished second in the long jump and high jump at the NTL Championships.

Babcock made his bones, however, in the high jump. After clearing 5-feet, 10-inches at the NTL meet, Babcock cleared a personal-best mark of 6-feet, 5-inches to win District 4 gold. He was seventh in the triple jump, and eighth in the long jump. At States, Babcock was 17th in the high jump, clearing 6-feet, 2-inches.

Brady Flynn, sophomore, Athens:
Flynn hit .442 (23 hits in 52 ABs) with seven doubles, 23 RBI, 23 runs scored, and eight stolen bases in his first full varsity season. He walked 12 times and was hit by one pitch for a .537 on-base percentage, to go along with a .577 slugging percentage for a 1.114 OPS.

On the mound, Flynn was 3-0 with a 1.97 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. He struck out 24 and walked six, while allowing 22 hits in 21 1/3 innings. Opponents hit .256 against him.

Jaxyn Mahoney, Corning lacrosse: Mahoney broke a 15-year old school record in the 800-meter run with a 1:54.08, placing fourth at the New York State Track & Field Championships. He was also on the state qualifying 4-by-800 relay team.

Francisco Alvarez-Sostres, Notre Dame tennis: Alvarez-Sostres was a third-place finisher at the Section IV State qualifier.

The first-singles player for Notre Dame went undefeated with a 10-0 record in the regular season. In those 10 matches, he lost just one set. At the IAC Championships at Newark Valley, he won the first singles bracket with three matches wins, and lost just two games over those three matches. 

At the Section IV West tournament at Newark Valley, he finished at the first seed in first singles after three victories. He took third at the Section IV Championships to make it to States. Overall, he finished 20-3 on the season. 

Griffin Stevens, Horseheads lacrosse:
Griffin, who is a Division I Mercyhurst commit and an All-State player, he won 112 of 155 face-offs for a 72 percent win-percentage. He also had 88 ground balls. He was a first-team all-STAC player and one of the most dominant players in the section.

Finn Schweizer, Notre Dame / Watkins Glen lacrosse: Notre Dame’s Finn Schweizer had 73 goals and 34 assists for the combined Notre Dame / Watkins Glen squad this year, setting Notre Dame records in both categories.

Elijah Lewis, senior, Owego: On the bump, Lewis went 7-1 with a 1.113 WHIP and a 1.53 ERA in 50.1 innings pitched. The senior fanned 61 batters on the year with opponents averaging .167 against him. Lewis threw a complete game, one-hit shutout in the first round of sectional playoffs, before holding champion, Maine-Endwell to just two hits and one earned run in the  Class A title game. Lewis also pitched a complete game against Waverly to clinch the STAC Central, going all seven innings while allowing just one earned run.

Offensively, Lewis hit .322 with 19 hits, including a home run, 12 RBI, 24 runs scored and 19 stolen bases. The senior standout worked 19 walks and was hit by pitch on six occasions for an on-base percentage of .524 combined with a slugging percentage of .390 for a .914 OPS.

Logan Stickler, senior, Cowanesque Valley: Stickler hit .453 with a .532 OBP, 29 base hits, including three home runs, two triples and seven doubles. He had 25 RBI, 24 runs scored, 12 walks and 20 stolen bases. Before suffering late-season arm issues, Stickler threw 20 innings for the Indians and went 3-0 with 38 strikeouts and a 2.41 ERA.
