Canton will be looking to start the year 2-0 as they host South Williamsport, who is coming off a tough loss to Athens, with a 7 p.m. kick-off on Friday.
The Warriors pulled out a win last week over Northwest but it wasn’t pretty.
“We are working on cleaning up the mental mistakes and penalties,” Canton coach Tyler Sechrist said.
The Mounties fell 47-27 at Athens a week ago but the Warriors aren’t taking them lightly.
“South Williamsport still has a young team with a great coaching staff,” said Sechrist. “They are disciplined and physical. We will need to be ready for a battle Friday night.”
The Mounties are known for their ground and pound tactics.
“We need to be focused on the game plan for the week,” remarked Sechrist. “Individually, each player must understand their alignment and assignment each play.”
KEYS TO THE GAME
South Williamsport - Control Bailey Gardner. Canton’s young offense revolves around Gardner, who ran for 157 yards and a touchdown last week. The Mounties need to key in on him and force other players to step up.
Canton - Be aggressive at the point of attack. Northwest was able to run the ball at times last week so Canton’s linebackers need to be hitting the hold hard to keep the gain as minimal as possible.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Cade Lusk, South Williamsport, RB - Lusk is a hard runner and will be tough to bring down for the Warriors.
Rylan Wesneski, Canton, QB - Wesneski will need to complete some passes in order to keep South’s defense honest.
