WYALUSING — Wyalusing just couldn’t make the plays they needed as they fell to Montgomery, 28-6, during NTL football action Friday.

The game was 7-6 at the half, and the Rams were still in it until midway through the fourth when Montgomery scored a third touchdown with 5:39 left to play.

“I just have one thing, obviously I didn’t have them ready to play so it’s all on me,” Wyalusing coach Rich Rogers said.

The Raiders out gained Wyalusing 318-118, with 258-yards on the ground off 45 carries.

Ethan Vanderpool had the lion’s share of rushes for the Rams with 19 touches for 79 yards while Jonathan Earle ran the ball six times for 40 yards.

Reuben Kinney completed just one pass but it a 36-yard scoring strike to Andrew Taylor.

Trace Furman led Montgomery with 17 carries for 115-yards and one touchdown, while Josh Knoebel had nine rushes for 50-yards and a score..

Parker Persing was 3-for-3 for 60-yards with a touchdown to Furman, while he also ran for a score.

Wyalusing didn’t have a turnover, but did put the ball on the deck seven times. They did get fumble recoveries from Kinney and Jesse Lamb on the day, likely saving touchdowns in the process.

The Rams’ opening drive got out to mid-field thanks to a 23-yard run from Earle on the first play from scrimmage, but they were forced to punt from there.

They did for Montgomery into a turnover on downs at the Red Raider 21-yard line.

Wyalusing would get as far as the 14, but their field goal 31-yard field goal attempt came up short.

Montgomery’s ensuing drive went eight plays down to the Wyalusing 15, where the ball popped out and Kinney fell on it.

That set up Wyalusing’s longest drive of the night as they went 11 plays down to the Montgomery 37-yard line before punting away.

The Red Raiders went 3-and-out on their ensuing drive, giving the Rams the ball at the Montgomery 40.

Three plays in, on third-and-6, the Montgomery defense bit hard on Wyalusing’s play action as they faked left and Kinney rolled out, hitting an open Taylor for the 36-yard scoring strike.

The 2-point conversion was no good but the Rams led 6-0 with 4:02 left in the half.

Montgomery would answer.

Starting at their own 42-yard line they went 58 yards in six plays, scoring on a 29-yard pass play from Persing to Furman. Abe Childs would give them the lead with the point after with 47 seconds left in the half.

Montgomery would get the ball to start the third, getting good field position as Wyalusing tried an onside kick.

They got down to the Ram 5-yard line, but a bad exchange between quarterback and runner put the ball on the grass, and Lamb fell on it to end that treat.

Wyalusing’s ensuing drive petered out at their own 21 and they were forced to punt.

Montgomery would finish off their next drive, going 51-yards six plays as Persing followed his offensive line into the end zone on a 3-yard push with five seconds left in the third.

Childs’ point after made it 14-6.

The Rams would turn it over on downs at midfield on their ensuing drive.

Taking over at the Wyalusing 45 Montgomery would need eight plays to hit pay dirt.

A 4-yard run from Persing on 4th-and-1 kept the drive alive, and it ended on a 20-yard run from Knoebel.

Childs’ kick made it 21-6 with 5:39 left to play.

Montgomery would add to the total with a 23-yard run from Furman with 3:20 to play for the 28-6 final after the Childs kick.

Wyalusing (1-3) will travel to South Williamsport next Friday.
