NTL CROSS-COUNTRY: CANTON BOYS EDGED OUT SULLIVAN COUNTY (2025-09-16)

LAPORTE — In a tight contest the Sullivan County boys’ cross-country edged out Canton to keep a hold of the NTL Small School standings.

The Griffins eked out a 26-29 win over Canton as they also beat Wellsboro (23-32). The Warriors defeated the Hornets 25-30.

Lawrence Halbfoerster (17:39) won the race with Sullivan’s Calen Sweigart (18:44) in second. Wellsboro’s Henry Whitney (18:51) and Max Macias (18:56) were third and fourth, with Canton’s Manual Halbfoerster (19:07) in fifth.

Sullivan took the next two spots with Carter Blasi (19:26) and Chase Preston (20:17), as Canton’s Landon Lake (20:25) took eighth. 

Isaiah Botsford (21:16) and Brayden Fitzgerald (21:30) were ninth and 10th for Sullivan, while Canton’s Nicholas Weaver (21:37) was 11th, and Chase Petrowski (23:17) came in 14th.

Preston beating Lake by eight seconds, and Fitzgerald getting Weaver by seven seconds were the difference in the meet.

On the girls’ side Sullivan defeated Wellsboro 22-33, while both teams beat Canton 15-50.

Wellsboro’s Lauren Kosek (21:06) won the race followed by four Griffins: Zoey Reese (22:30), Addi Templin (23:15), Paige Jordan (23:39), and Addie Thibodeault (24:11). Sullivan’s Emily Guare (23:09) was eighth to round out their top five.

Canton’s Kathryn Wile (30:17) was ninth overall.

In junior high Sullivan boys beat Wellsboro 23-32 while both beat Canton 15-50, while on the girls’ side Sullivan topped Canton (25-34) and Wellsboro (18-41). The Lady Warriors won 6-15.

Sullivan’s Seth Sweigart (11:24) took the boys’ race while Lydia Lentz (13:21) won the girls’ race.
