The calendar turns from September to October, and that means the start of the Fall sports postseasons. Golf tees things off this week with the District IV Team Competition on Wednesday.
GOLF
Wednesday, October 1
Towanda at District IV Team Tournament (White Deer), 10 a.m.: The Towanda girls’ golf team will be defending their team district title, while the boys will be in the hunt for the team title after taking third a year ago. Wyalusing will have individuals trying to qualify for districts.
CROSS-COUNTRY
Tuesday, September 30
Troy, Canton, Athens at Towanda, 4:30 p.m.: The Lady Knights will wrap up their second straight Large School title, while the boys’ title will come down to Troy and Towanda. Individually, Canton’s Lawrence Halbfoerster and Towanda’s Boom Thompson are both undefeated in dual meets.
NEB, NPM, Wellsboro at CV, 4:30 p.m.: The Panthers head west as the boys’ still have hopes of claiming their division title, but will need Wyalusing to knock off Sullivan County.
Wyalusing, Sayre at Sullivan County, 4:30 p.m.: Both Griffin teams are on the verge of winning divisional titles - it will be the first in program history for the girls - but will need to top the Rams.
FOOTBALL
Friday, October 3
Wellsboro (3-3) at Troy (5-1), 7 p.m.: Troy rolled to another league win last week as the unveiled their state title banner. Wellsboro has gone 3-1 after their 0-2 start to the season.
Canton (1-5) at Wyalusing (1-5), 7 p.m.: Homecoming for the Rams as they host Canton. Both teams are looking to snap losing streaks, with the Warriors on a 5-game slide while Wyalusing has lost four straight.
Athens (5-1) at Towanda (1-5), 7 p.m.: The Knights picked up their first win of the season last week as they pulled away from Canton. Athens did the same against Wellsboro last week as they are on a 2-game winning streak.
VOLLEYBALL
Tuesday, September 30
Athens (1-7) at Towanda (5-6), 7 p.m.: The Knights are on a 3-match slide, losing all three matches in five sets. They beat Athens 3-2 earlier in the season.
NP-Liberty (6-2) at Troy (7-2), 7 p.m.: Another key league and district match-up. The Trojans are winners of three straight after their loss to Wellsboro, while NPL is riding a 3-match win streak, as well.
Wyalusing (8-2) at Sayre (6-4), 7 p.m.: The Rams take on the upstart Redskins in a key Small School tilt. Wyalusing needs a win here to stay in the NTL Division-II title chase, while Sayre is 4-1 over their last five matches.
Thursday, October 2
CV (2-7) at Canton (4-6), 7 p.m.: The Warriors are on a tough 3-match slide with two five set losses, and one four set defeat. They beat CV 3-1 earlier in the season.
NPL (6-2) at Towanda (5-6), 7 p.m.: The Knights get another tough one as they welcome the Mounties. This is their first time playing NPL this season.
Williamson (8-1) at NEB (0-9), 7 p.m.: The Panthers won their first set of the season against CV last week, while the Warriors come in leading the NTL Small School division.
Saturday, October 4
Canton (4-6), Troy (7-2) at Loyalsock (7-1), 9 a.m.: A tri-match as the Lancers started the season on a 7-match win streak before falling to Central Mountain last week.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Monday, September 29
Towanda (2-9) at NEB (8-4), 4 p.m.: A make-up from last week, the Panthers have two straight as they make a playoff push. The Knights are looking to snap a 7-match losing streak.
Wednesday, October 1
NEB (8-4) at Williamson (8-4), 4 p.m.: The Panthers won the first meeting 4-1 over at Panther Lane as the Warriors are coming off back to back losses to Athens.
Troy (0-13) at NPL (6-5-1), 4 p.m.: The Trojans are searching for their first win as they take on a Mountie squad that is 2-2-1 in their last five matches. They beat Troy 2-1 earlier in the season.
Towanda (2-9) at Athens (8-2-2), 5:30 p.m.: The Knights head North to take on an Athens squad that just lost to Williamsport and tied Wellsboro all in the same day. Athens won the first meeting 3-0.
Saturday, October 4
Towanda (2-9) at Montrose, 11 a.m.: The Knights hit the road to Susquehanna County to face the Meteors, a team they beat to end last season.
Jersey Shore (3-6-2) at Troy (0-13), 2 p.m.: The Trojans host the Bulldogs, who are 1-3-1 over their last five matches.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Tuesday, September 30
Towanda (3-8) at Troy (11-2), 4 p.m.: The Knights gave the Trojans a fight in their season opener as they come in 1-4 in their last five matches. Troy is coming off a loss to district power Shikellamy.
Wyalusing (7-6) at NEB (1-11), 4 p.m.: The Rams have righted their ship as they look to make a playoff push. The Panthers are coming off a tough loss to district power Warrior Run.
Thursday, October 2
Troy (11-2) at NEB (1-11), 4 p.m.: The Trojans won the first meeting 8-0 at East Troy as they pull away for their sixth straight league title.
Wyalusing (7-6) at Wellsboro (9-4), 5:30 p.m.: The Hornets rallied to beat Wyalusing 2-1 in the first meeting as both teams battle for playoff positioning.
NCC (5-2) at Towanda (3-8), 6 p.m.: After a 5-0 start NCC has lost their last two contests as the Knights look to pick up a win.
Saturday, October 4
NEB (1-11) at Blue Ridge, 10 a.m.: The Panthers hit the road for another Saturday contest, this time they go across Susquehanna County to New Milford.
Towanda (3-8) at Williamson (6-8), 10 a.m.: The Warriors won the first match-up 4-1 but need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
