WILLIAMSPORT — Towanda’s Clara Glantz became the first female Black Knight golfer to make states this century at the District IV, Class AA Individual Championships Saturday.
Glantz carded a 99 at Williamsport Country Club on the second day of the tournament to finish third overall and punch her ticket to states with a score of plus-54.
“This is definitely something I knew I had in me, and it feels great knowing I was able to accomplish this,” Glantz said.
Glantz is the first Towanda state qualifier on the links since Julie Wickwire back in 1993.
Lourdes’ Vivian Reiprish won with a plus-30, while Central Columbia’s Lauren Brosius was second at plus-32.
The top four are eligible for states but have to shoot at least one round at 100 or under to qualify. Glantz was able to meet that mark on Thursday at White Deer with her 100, but she wanted to do better at Williamsport.
“Breaking 100 is something I have been working for all year,” she said. “That has been my goal so to finally break it is so rewarding.”
Glantz had two pars on the day, opening with a 51 on the front nine, and closing with a 48 on the back nine.
The final four holes at Williamsport are known to be tough - two par-3’s and two par-5’s - but Glantz was able to play them 4-over to stay under 100.
Now she’ll get ready for the state championships in two weeks, but not before her team returns to Williamsport Country Club on Tuesday for the sub-regional with an 11 a.m. tee time.
“To prepare for states I really need to just get out and play,” Glantz said.
Teammate Olivia Heath came up just short of states; she took fourth but shot a 108 after carding a 118 on Thursday. Heath had one par on Saturday to finish plus-81.
Rosie Glantz shot 121 on Saturday to finish plus-88 for the tournament.
