WYALUSING — Wyalusing girls’ soccer punched their ticket to the post season with a 3-0 win over Sullivan County on senior night Tuesday.
“We told the girls that today it was their decision on what’s going to happen for playoffs, and I was proud of them for choosing to play their game, and they came out ready to win,” said Ram coach Katie Fischer.
Wyalusing came into their final game of the season 8-8 and needed to be .500 or better to get a district berth. They had one more game scheduled in Millersburg but they ended up forfeiting due to injuries.
The Rams led 2-0 at the half as they got a pair of goals from Vayda Rought. Jenna Morningstar added a late second half goal for the 3-0 final.
Addisyn Bly and Nickeson each had assists.
Wyalusing out shot Sullivan 41-10 and had a 13-0 edge in corner kicks. Callee Warner made nine saves in net for the Rams, while Mariah Hallabuck had 10 saves for Sullivan.
Fischer feels her team is starting play better after a mid-season malaise.
“We’ve worked on a lot of stuff that kind of fell off there in the middle,” she said. “Just communication and defensing, stepping to the ball, and I think that’s translated for them.”
Right now they’re currently sitting seventh in the district standings, but could go up or down depending on how the rest of the week shakes out.
“We feel pretty confident, and now we’re just taking the next step up,” Fischer said. “Today the girls had a lot of great give-and-goes, that’s sort of our next takeaway, and so they’re going to keep working on those things.”
