Northern Tier Sports ReportHUGHESVILLE — Wyalusing struggled offensively as they fell to Hughesville, 28-6, during non-league football action Friday.
It was just 9-0 at the half and 16-6 midway through the third quarter but to late Hughesville scores in the frame put them out of reach.
Reuben Kinney was 3-for-12 for 69-yards with a touchdown and pick under center while running the ball for 12-yards on 12 carries. Andrew Taylor had all three catches for 69-yards and a score.
Jonathan Earle ran the ball 16 times for 30-yards, while Ethan Vanderpool had 10 carries for 29-yards.
Connor Anstadt had the big day for Hughesville with six catches for 149-yards and three touchdowns as Nicholas Stubbs was 6-for-19 for 149-yards with three scores and a pick.
Chase Shrawder had eight carries for 79-yards and a score for the Spartans.
Hughesville got things off with a bang as on their first play from scrimmage Stubbs hit Anstadt for a 67-yard scoring strike to make it 6-0 13 seconds in.
It was a defensive struggle after that with the only points in the second quarter an Avery Puderbaugh 20-yard field goal for a 9-0 lead at the break.
Shrawder punched one in from a yard out to make it 16-0 after the Puderbaugh extra point.
Wyalusing answered with a 5-yard pass from Kinney to Taylor to make it 16-6 with 4:11 left in the third.
The Spartans then got two quick hitting scores in the final 2:12 of the frame as Stubbs hit Anstadt for a 5-yard strike, and then a 24-yard strike with 57 seconds on the clock for the 28-6 final.
Wyalusing will host Towanda for the Bronze Helmet next week.
