NTL GIRLS' SOCCER: WYALUSING EXCITED TO FACE LINE MOUNTAIN IN DISTRICT IV, CLASS A QUARTERS (2025-10-21)

Wyalusing girls’ soccer rode a late season push into the postseason, and now they’re hoping they’ll be able to keep riding that to a quarterfinal win against Line Mountain at Balls Mills on Saturday.

They’re also looking to extend their streak of winning district games to four years in a row.

“We are all very proud that the girls worked hard, and gave themselves the opportunity to continue play into the postseason,” said Wyalusing coach Katie Fischer. “This has been one of our team goals since day one. The girls have put in a lot of hard work, and now they’re seeing the reward for their efforts.”

It’ll be a bit of a blank slate for both teams when they kick-off at 2 p.m. as there isn’t much history between Line Mountain and Wyalusing, though Line Mountain did beat the Rams in the first round back in 2021.

“I think playing a team outside of our area gives our girls the opportunity to just play their game without outside factors,” explained Fischer. “Often times when we play local rivals, these girls know each other from years past, and off the pitch, and sometimes that translates onto the field. Not knowing a team gives our girls the opportunity to just play their game to the best of their ability.”

It’ll be a long lay-off from Wyalusing’s last game until their district game. Their last game was Sullivan County on October 14 but their playoff opener isn’t until October 25.

“We are certainly lucky in our numbers that we are able to scrimmage amongst ourselves,” Fischer said. “We will use that to our advantage this week. Last week we had some alumni come back to run a practice - Liv Hailey, Mia Wilcox, Ava Reed - just offering small changes like that gives our girls a little boost of energy.”

They’re hoping to use the extra time to sharpen things up.

“When the girls solidified playoffs we reminded them that this is an opportunity that they created for themselves, and that they are also being given the opportunity to fine tune things over the next couple of days, so that’s our goal,” Fischer said. “We know that playing on turf gives games a different feel, so we will work on those little things like touches, passes, and runs that will make our game smoother.”
