IT'S ALL-REGION WEEK / YEAR-END AWARDS (2023-07-02)
The Sports Reports
It’s “All-Region” week for the 2023 spring sports season, which will be followed by our year-end awards.


The Sports Reports, which covers 24 school districts in four counties — Chemung and Tioga counties in N.Y., and Tioga and Bradford counties in Pa. — and Corning will honor the top student-athletes in each sport, the top newcomers and athletes — both male and female — of the spring sports season, and the top coaches from our coverage areas.


“All-Region” week begins Monday and stretches through the following Saturday.


The 2022-23 All-Region year-end awards will be doled out July 9-10.


The schedule is as follows:

For the past several years Northeast Bradford boys’ basketball has gone through a cycle of rebuild then compete, with one class usually leading them for three years. Last year’s seniors were one of those types of classes, and it ended up being a banner raising year as they claimed the NTL Small School title. Towanda boys’ basketball is back in a familiar spot, with just one senior and bevy of younger players - caught between rebuilding and competing. Still, even with just four players in the top two classes, coach Landon Henry feels the experience the younger players picked up last year will be valuable.

It will be a turning of the page for Troy wrestling, and writing the new chapter will be former Canton standout Garrett Wesneski. Wesneski was a state medalist at Canton, a National Champion in college, and worked with the wrestlers last season as an assistant coach.
