Northern Tier Sports Report
Things are getting down to the nitty-gritty with just a handful of teams and athletes left going as the calendar changes from October to November.

FOOTBALL
Friday, October 31
Wellsboro at Troy, 7 p.m.: The District IV, Class AA quarterfinals start at Alparon Park for the Trojans as they start their state title defense. They host a Hornets team coming off a big win over NP-Mansfield for the Mort. Troy rolled past Wellsboro earlier this year, which was also at home.

CROSS-COUNTRY
Saturday, November 1: The PIAA Championships are this week with NEB, Towanda, and Canton representing the area. The NEB boys’ team will be there, along with one girls’ runner; Towanda has four runners, and Canton two. The girls’ Class A race is at 9:30 a.m. to start things off.

GIRLS’ SOCCER
Monday, October 27

Troy vs Hughesville at Loyalsock, 5 p.m.: The Trojans get a chance at revenge as they take on Hughesville for the second year in a row during the District IV, Class AA semifinals. Both teams earned 5-0 wins in the quarterfinals.

VOLLEYBALL
Tuesday, October 28

Troy vs NP-Liberty at Athens, 7 p.m.: The District IV, Class AA semifinal. The Trojans swept the season series, and beat Towanda to get here, while NPL won 3-1 over Williamson. The winner moves on to the finals on Thursday with a 7 p.m. start.

Thursday, October 30
Canton vs Sayre/Sugar Valley at Athens, 5 p.m.: The Warriors get a bye into the finals and it will be a week from their last contest. They split with Sayre during the regular season.
