NTL GIRLS' SOCCER: TOWANDA BATTLES THROUGH HARD LUCK SEASON (2025-11-06)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportIt was a bit of a hard luck year for Towanda girls’ soccer as they finished 6-12 on the season but easily could have reversed that if some close games went their way.
“It was a great opportunity getting to take over as head coach for this program,” said Towanda coach Josh Maye. “Results were’t exactly as we had hoped, but I do feel like we grew as a team, and we’re playing our best soccer towards the end of the season.”
They opened with an exciting 4-3 win over Shamokin, then lost to Troy (6-2) in a contest that was closer than the final score indicated.
After that, though they had one of those close losses to Athens (1-0), before falling to their rivals, Wyalusing (4-1), in their only meeting of the season.
Back to back wins over NEB (3-0) and Meadowbrook (4-3) leveled up their record.
A 4-game losing streak followed though they had a close loss at Wellsboro (1-0) during that stretch.
They ended it with a 3-2 win over playoff team NP-Mansfield, then lost two straight.
They would get a close win over Northumberland (2-1) followed by a pair of closes losses to Williamson (4-3) and NEB (3-1).
They did send off their seniors with a home finale win over Sullivan County (5-4) while ending the season with a tough loss at Milton (8-1).
It was a mix of young and old on the Towanda roster this season with seniors Kennedy Heyer, Marin Maynard, Clara Glantz, Cheyenne Morgan, and Maggie Glantz leading the way.
Mya Maynard was forced from the goal early on in the season due to an injury, making way for freshman Kendal Cook to take over keeper duties.
Kiera Robinson, Hannah Kapichok, and Ily Benjamin helped hold down the defense with Marin Maynard.
The Knights also had a bevy of freshmen see the field along with Kendal Cook - Elli Cook, Taylor Aquilio, Secret Salsman, and Laney Maye all got time on the field.
Expect those freshmen to have a bigger role next season as the Knights lose five seniors.
“I’m excited for what next season brings as we will have a strong group of returning players,” Maye said.
