COLLEGE: LOCALS DO WELL ON THE MAT (November 9, 2025)

Our area saw Sheldon Seymour (#5 by Intermat Lehigh) and Kade Sottolano (Lock Haven) wrestling at WrangleMania at Liberty High School in Bethlehem, PA. While Mason Higley (Kent State) traveled to Michigan for the Michigan State Freshman/Sophomore Open.
Sheldon Seymour and Leigh would match up in two duals today against Duke and the University of Virginia. In the first duel, Seymour squared off against Duke’s Rowan Riley. Seymour would use an unconventional move from the bottom. Working to get out from the bottom with a slip of the inside arm and control of his opponent’s arm, Seymour secured control with a headlock for the fall in 4:01 to put his team up 6-0. The team would end up winning 38-7 over Duke.
In the second duel, Seymour would square off against #23-ranked Keyvyon Roller of Virginia. Seymour with the lead when Roller would get in his legs, Seymour uses another unconventional move. This time, as Roller was trying to pull Seymour back to the center of the mat, Seymour would sweep out his right leg to kick sweep the foot of Roller and secure the takedown for himself. Seymour with the 9-2 decision to put Lehigh up 3-0. Lehigh again would win the duel this time by a score of 21-17.
Kade Sottalono of Lock Haven wrestling at heavyweight would see Max Ohamuo of Long Island University, where he would secure the fall in 0:47 to help his team win the dual by a final score of 48-6. In the second duel, Sottolano saw Nick Pavlechecko of Indiana. Earning a hard-fought 4-2 decision. However, Lock Haven would lose the dual 25-8.
Wrestling at the Michigan Open for Kent State was Mason Higley. In his first collegiate match, Higley would see Benjamin Leece of GVSU. Higley by force and a 16-0 technical fall in 5:23. In the quarterfinal round, Higley would see Marcell Booth of Northwestern, where he would earn a hard-fought 1-0 win to move into the semifinal. In the semifinals, Higley would see Aidan Ysaguirre of Arizona State, where he would lose by major decision 13-4. Falling to the consolation round, Higley squared off against Cole O’Boyle of Central Michigan. Higley would win by technical fall 18-1 in 5:44. Moving into the consi-finals, Higley faced off against Max Acciardi, where Higley would win by fall in 2:36 to finish in 3rd place, going 4-1 on the day.
A good day of wrestling for our local athletes. Seymour from Troy wrestling for Lehigh, Kade Sottalono Williamson and wrestling for Lock Haven, and Mason Higley from Towanda wrestling for Kent State.
Penn College wrapped up Day 2 at the Ithaca Invitation. After going 2-1 on day one, Woodruff would open up day two in the consolation round.
In his opening bout of the day, Nick Woodruff squared off against Jack Brown of Castleton. Woodruff would come out on top with a strong 19-2 technical fall in 3:00.
Moving on, Woodruff now faced off against Xavier Pommells of Ithaca. In the end, Woodruff would drop a by decision 7-4 to finish his second day 1-1. Overall, Woodruff ended his tournament up, going 3-2.
