Canton started the season off strong but a string injuries hit their roster hard, though they did recover late to finish 2-8 on the year.

“We were hit hard by injuries this season and had a lot of younger players gain valuable experience this season,” said Canton coach Tyler Sechrist.

The Warriors opened with a 17-6 win over Northwest then fell to South Williamsport (31-14) and Athens (56-22), both playoff teams.

They suffered a heartbreaker against NP-Mansfield (24-14) then came the injuries in the loss to Montgomery (54-0).

That was followed by three straight losses to league opponents before gutting out a win over Sayre (21-14).

They ended the season with a loss against Troy (49-6) in the Old Shoe.

Gaining most of that experience was freshman quarterback Owen Moore, who came up just short of 1,000 yards passing this year.

He was 57-for-135 for 990-yards with eight touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.

Bailey Gardner led the team in rushing despite missing games due to injury, with 318-yards and four touchdowns on 54 carries.

Rylan Wesneski was in a slash role most of the season, doing a little bit of everything. He was 13-for-28 for 232-yards with one touchdown and three interceptions, while he also ran the for 89-yards and had six catches for 129-yards and two touchdowns.

Senior Ryder Route led the team in receiving with 22 catches for 439-yards and two scores, while Monte Whitehead had eight catches for 246-yards and four scores.

Leeland Tubach chipped in with 16 catches for 211-yards and one score.

Marcus Solomon led the team on the defensive end with 78 tackles while Dawson Burgess finished with 55 tackles.

Most of their big stat getters return, though they’ll have new faces to break in for the line.

“It is hard to say goodbye to our seven seniors who have sacrificed a lot for our program and I will miss them next fall,” Sechrist said. “We are excited to get to work this off season and start building for the future seasons of Canton Warrior Football.”
