NTL CROSS-COUNTRY: HALBFOERSTER'S MEDAL HIGHLIGHTS A STRONG SEASON FOR CANTON RUNNERS (November 12, 2025)

The Canton boys’ cross-country team nearly snuck out a league title this season while Lawrence Halbfoerster got that long time coming state medal.

“We had a pretty successful season overall,” said Canton coach Casey Aylesworth. “Our guys and girls improved throughout the season, running better as the season went along. Obviously, it's easy to highlight Lawrence, and Landon who made it to the states, but our guys just fell short of an NTL Championship and a District IV Championship. Sullivan and NEB had great team success this year, and we were over their shoulders at times.”

They were just a couple points away from going undefeated in divisional action while they did pull out a close win over Wyalusing.

The Warriors also finished third at the District IV, Class A Championships.

Halbfoerster went undefeated in NTL dual meet action this year, while he was joined at states by teammate Landon Lake, who earned the final state spot at districts.

“Lawrence had the individual success to become NTL Runner of the Year, and being the fourth boy in our school history to medal with his eighth place finish at states,” said Aylesworth. “More importantly than our success, we had a group of guys that loved the "grind" of running.”

As for next season Canton returns Lake and Manuel Halbfoerster, who should be two of the runners in the league and district for 2026, while fellow scorers Nick Weavr and Chase Petrowski will also be back.

On the girls’ side Kathryn Wile gave them a runner this year and they have three more coming from junior high.

“We are going to graduate Sawyer Vroman, Elton Weingartner, Lawrence Halbfoerster, and Max Ault, it's going to be really difficult to replace those guys going into next year,” Aylesworth said.
