NTL VOLLEYBALL: TOWANDA HAS WILD DISTRICT QUALIFYING SEASON IN 2025 (November 14, 2025)

Northern Tier Sports Report
It was a season on the edge for Towanda volleyball, with plenty of ups-and-downs. By the end, though, they achieve their goal of earning a district berth as they finished the season 10-10.

“Our Lady Knights had a fantastic 2025 season,” said Towanda coach Cassie Smith. “The coaching staff is incredibly proud of the growth and maturity this team showed from the beginning of the season to the end. They embraced a team mentality, and as Districts remained at arm's length all season, they never wavered from their goal. As a result, they had an exciting end to their season, winning their final two games to qualify for districts for the first time since 2019.”

They opened the season with a win over CV (3-0), then followed that up with a loss to Williamson (3-0).

It was back and forth for the next four matches with wins over Selinsgrove (3-0) and Susquehanna (3-0) but losses to Troy (3-1) and Williamsport (3-0).

A 2-match win streak followed - Athens (3-2) and Montoursville (3-0) - but after that was a 4-match skid.

During that stretch they lost three straight 5-set matches - Troy (3-2), Wellsboro (3-2), and Mountain View (3-2) - and a 4-set match to Athens (3-1).

They ended that run with a win over NPL (3-1), but then lost another 5-set match, this time to Canton (3-2).

They rebounded with a win over Sayre (3-0), then fell to Montrose (3-1).

Sitting on the razor’s edge, they needed to win three of their final four matches to get into districts.  They opened with a win over Wyalusing (3-1), but then lost at NPL (3-0).

A home win over NEB (3-0) set the table for their 5-set win stunner at Wellsboro (3-2) to punch their ticket to districts.

In districts they got a play-in win over Montoursville, but then lost to eventual champions Troy.

“That night in Wellsboro will definitely be a core memory for the team, coaching staff, and fans,” Smith said. “It just demonstrated how their commitment to the program paid off in a big way. It is rewarding as a coach to see how players step up in different situations and embrace new roles. We had a lot of that this season which makes it exciting for what's to come with Towanda Volleyball.”

Brooklyn Evans had 230 kills, 204 digs, 20 blocks, and 175 points for Towanda this season while Karis Flynn added 504 assists, 237 digs, 221 points, 21 blocks, and 66 kills.

Brynsen Vargason notched 317 digs, 182 points, 41 aces, and 57 kills, as Lariah Long had 237 digs, 170 points, and 83 kills.

Caedence Wells finished with 153 points, 43 aces, and 106 digs, while Kaya Johnson had 65 kills, with Kylee Barnes getting 71 kills, and 52 blocks.

Addison Barrett jumped up to varsity to have 62 kills, and 21 blocks.

Towanda says good-bye to seniors Evans, Johnson, and Wells, along with Alyssa Dulaney, Nozila Ismailova, and LilyAnn Sproule, but have big junior and sophomore classes to fill in for 2026.

“Our seniors will be missed dearly as they were a large part of our team's success this year, but I know they have left a lasting impact on our younger players,” Smith said. “We look forward to continued success in the years to come.”
