NTL CROSS-COUNTRY: TOWANDA RUNNERS HAVE BANNER RAISING SEASONS (November 15, 2025)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportThe Towanda cross-country teams had big goals going into the 2025 season, and they nabbed most of them, while others were just out of reach.
“A great season overall,” said Towanda coach Mike Maurer. “We were able to reach some pretty big goals individually and as team. I’m Proud of the growth of the team throughout the season, the way that different individuals stepped up at different times shows how tight of a team we have.”
Both teams went undefeated in the NTL dual meet season to claim league titles, for the girls it’s a repeat while for the boys its their second championship in three years.
Districts saw the boys take fourth as a team with Boom Thompson and Emmett Klees earning individual berths.
On the girls’ side the Knights came up just short of a state berth, taking second to state powerhouses Lewisburg and Danville.
Maris Cobb and Izzy Larson both qualified for states, though, while Mary-Kate Eberlin was the first runner out.
At Hershey Cobb brought home a state medal as a freshman in the always tough Class AA field.
This looks like it’s just the beginning for both teams as neither squads lose anybody, while they will be looking to add some junior high runners to their ranks.
“With no seniors I am excited for next year as we look take another big step forward and reach some more lofty goals,” Maurer said.
