NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: NEW LOOK TROY READY TO CARRY THE TORCH (November 29, 2025)

Northern Tier Sports Report
As we change seasons it’ll be a season of change for Troy boys’ basketball. They said good-bye to a class that was the backbone of their success for the last three years, while also adding in a new coach in Craig Sheeley. However, that doesn’t mean they’re lowering their standards any.

“I feel like we have a lot to prove from last year,” said sophomore guard Spencer Martin. “Knowing that we lost a lot of talent, we just have the same goals, the same standard as always - just compete for the NTL and district titles.”

Sheeley has spent time around these guys, and they return plenty of last year’s staff, so the familiarity is already there.

On the court, though, there will be a mix of new and old players that have to figure each other out.

“I think it’s just coming together as a team, and figuring out what works for our team, and how they all can mesh together,” said Sheeley. “There’s a lot of younger guys that haven’t been together and played with the older guys, so it’s just a good learning experience for all of them.”

Sheeley’s looking for Martin and Trey Teribury to bring the experience from last year to lead this year’s squad.

“We’ve had that good leadership from them,” he said.

The 6-foot, 4-inch Teribury got better as the season went on last year, and played a key defensive role in their district title win over Warrior Run.

“It’s been a while since we’ve been on the court, but it feels really good to be back out here with my guys,” Teribury said. “I’ve emphasized my speed this year in workouts, and strength, and just embracing the new role I have on the team to get better every day. I’m embracing it, and just getting better with my guys every day.”

Martin will likely see his role increase the most, going from off an off the bench shooter last year to the team’s lead guard.

“I’d say I worked mostly on my scoring a bit last year,” he said. “I didn’t really need to do that as much as I’ll have to this year, but I know that I can still dish out to my teammates when I need to, but it’s good to have that second option as well.”

Sheeley is also looking for a pair of fresh faced veterans to step up, too.

“The seniors that we have in (Aiden) Lawrence and Cameron Morey, they’ve been sitting behind guys but they’re working really hard in practice,” Sheeley said. “We have some freshmen that have stepped in, Josiah (Pesesky) and Landon (Cole), they’ve been doing a good job, too.”

Morey brings a level of athleticism not typically found in the NTL, while Pesesky adds to their already considerable plethora of size.

Troy’s sophomores and freshmen have seen success at the lower levels, so Sheeley is hoping that will translate to the varsity level, if not right away, then eventually.

“I think the mentality is what you want,” he said. “I mean, the winning mentality and looking at the hard work. We’re lucky to have those younger guys who were around as managers last year, so they got to see that hard work, and what it takes to win.”

Troy has been on top, either the league or districts or both, the past three years, so they expect to get their opponents best effort whenever they take the floor.

“We definitely have a big target on our back from not just teams inside the league, but outside the league, as well,” remarked Teribury. “We know that, but we’re just going to put our heads down every day, and work hard on it.”

A few other teams have youth movements going on, so it may come down to who develops their younger players the fastest.

“It’s one day at a time, one practice at a time,” Sheeley said. “We’re not really worried about anybody else right now, we’re only worried about ourselves and what we need to get ready.”
