NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: TOWANDA HANGS WITH LOYALSOCK, BUT FALLS TO STATE CHAMPS (December 6, 2025)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WILLIAMSPORT — Towanda hung with the defending state champion Loyalsock Lancers for much of the game Saturday, even out scoring them in the second quarter, but ultimately fell 45-28 in their season opener.

“Our game plan today was to go there and compete and play our style of basketball and take what we got,” said Towanda coach Rob Gentile. “We wanted to come right out the gates swinging and see how they responded. They responded exactly how I would expect a championship team to respond! They made the necessary halftime adjustments and made that run that Loyalsock teams always seem to make and kind of put us away late in the 3rd quarter.”

After falling down 11-4 in the first quarter the Knights got the better of Loyalsock with a 9-6 second to make it 17-13 at the half.

The Lancers out scored Towanda 12-4 in the third, then hit eight field goals for 16 points in the fourth quarter to pull away.

“Defensively, we really battled and fought but just could not put the ball in the basket,” said Gentile. “When you can't score, you can't win and there are no moral victories in this! An L is an L, no matter how you look at it, but this was a great game for us moving forward. If you can compete with the reigning state champ and hold the AAA state player of the year to 10, we will take that any day.”

Mary-Kate Eberlin and Brynn Woodruff had six points each to lead the Knights, with Woodruff adding eight boards as Eberlin had four boards, and five steals.

Payton Perry added five points, four boards, and two steals, while Ali Hollett had three points.

Mya Maynard notched two points, nine rebounds, and four steals, with Taylor Aquilio and Maci Alexander getting two points each.

Reese Sullivan and Karis Flynn both scored one points, and Maris Cobb chipped in with four boards.

Alaina Dadzie led Loyalsock with 10 points.

“We have to get better offensively and we will but today gave us some hope that we can be a highly competitive basketball team, and we will use that to keep moving in the right direction,” Gentile said.

Perry had the Knights’ lone first quarter bucket, while Eberlin’s 3-ball was their lone field goal in the second quarter.

However, they made up for it at the free throw line with six makes to keep in touch.

Maynard and Aquilio had the two Towanda field goals in the third while Dadzie had six points to lead the Loyalsock effort.

The Knights finished with four field goals in the final frame - including a 3-ball from Hollett - but couldn’t stop Loyalsock.

Towanda (0-1) will travel to Sayre on Wednesday.
