THE WEEK AHEAD: A SLOW START TO A WEEK THAT ENDS WITH A BANG (December 7, 2025)
Northern Tier Sports ReportA slow start to the week ends with plenty of action as NTL contests get underway in both hoops and wrestling.
WRESTLING
Tuesday, December 9Troy at Wyalusing (4-3), 7 p.m.: Wyalusing’s busy start continues as they host the Trojans for their season opener. The Rams are coming off a 4-2 performance at their duals on Saturday.
NPL at NEB (1-0), 7 p.m.: The dual meet opener for NPL who competed at the DKI this past weekend. The Panthers opened the year with a win over Montrose.
Wednesday, December 10Towanda at Horseheads (4-3), 7 p.m.: The season opener for the Knights, who have gone 2-0 over Horseheads the past two seasons. Horseheads went 4-3 at their opening tournament this past week.
Canton at Wellsboro (0-1), 7 p.m.: The season opener for the Warriors while Wellsboro is coming off a 63-0 loss at Athens.
Thursday, December 11NPL at Troy, 7 p.m.: The home opener for the Trojans as the Mounties continue their road trip early this season.
Friday, December 12Wyalusing (4-3) at Athens (1-0), 7 p.m.: A big early season match as the Rams head north. This will be Wyalusing’s ninth match in a little over a week-and-a-half white the Wildcats have Williamson earlier in the week.
Saturday, December 13Towanda hosts Dandy Duals, 11 a.m.: The Knights’ first duals of the season where they bring in NPL, Bald Eagle, and Montgomery among other teams.
NEB at Hughesville Duals: They made their annual trek to the Spartan Duals, hosted by last year’s District IV Duals runner-ups. Other teams there are Mid-Valley and Sullivan County.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Wednesday, December 9Towanda (0-1) at Sayre (0-1), 7 p.m.: The Knights’ early season road trip continues as they head to Sayre. Both teams opened the season with road losses, Towanda to Loyalsock, and Sayre against Newfield.
Troy (0-1) at CV, 7 p.m.: Troy heads to Westfield to open NTL play after falling at Central Columbia. CV is playing their first game of the season.
Wellsboro (0-1) at NEB (1-0), 7 p.m.: NEB opened the season with a big win over Blue Ridge, while the Hornets fell at South Williamsport.
Wyalusing (0-1) at Canton (2-0), 7 p.m.: Canton is coming off a title at the NPL tournament, while the Rams took a loss on the road at Shamokin.
Friday, December 12Williamson (1-0) at Towanda (1-1), 7 p.m.: The Knights’ home opener as they welcome while Williamson went 1-1 at the Galeton Tournament over the weekend.
Canton (2-0) at Troy (0-1), 7 p.m.: The home opener for Troy as they bring in their rivals. Canton is coming off their NPL title while the Trojans opened the season with a loss at Central Columbia.
NEB (1-0) at Wyalusing (0-1), 7 p.m.: Another big cross-over game as the Panthers travel to their neighbors. NEB won this game at home last year.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Tuesday, December 9Sayre (0-2) at Towanda (1-0), 7 p.m.: The Knights are coming off a season opening win over Montrose, while Sayre opened the season with back to back losses at the Mifflinburg Tournament.
Wednesday, December 10CV at Troy (1-1), 7 p.m.: The Trojans’ home opener after splitting at Sullivan County’s Mountain Madness. They beat Muncy but fell to the hosts in the title game.
Thursday, December 11NEB (3-0) at Wellsboro (0-1), 7 p.m.: The Panthers hit the road for the fourth straight game as they face the Hornets, who opened the season with a road loss at Loyalsock.
Canton (0-3) at Wyalusing (0-2), 7 p.m.: Two teams searching for their first win. The Rams had back to back losses to Susquehanna County teams, while the Warriors went 0-2 at the Galeton Tournament, though played a pair of competitive contests.
Friday, December 12Towanda (1-0) at Muncy Tournament: The Knights make their annual trek to the Muncy Tournament as their first road trip of the season.
Saturday, December 13Towanda (1-0) at Muncy Tournament: The Knights finish up at the Muncy Tournament to end the week.
Montrose at NEB (3-0), 2:30 p.m.: The Panthers’ home opener as they welcome the Meteors, who fell at Towanda last week.
Benton (0-1) at Wyalusing (0-2), 7 p.m.: The Rams’ home heavy early schedule continues with their third straight game in their own gymnasium. Benton opened the season with a loss against Lourdes.
GIRLS’ WRESTLING
Saturday, December 13NEB, Towanda at Honesdale Tournament: The season debut for the Lady Knights while NEB laces them up for the second weekend in a row.
