TROY, MU GRAD KATE WRIGHT MAKES PSAC'S TOP 75 FEMALE ATHLETES LIST (December 8, 2025)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportThe PSAC Conference turns 75 this year and as part of that celebration they announced their 75 greatest female athletes recently. On that list was former Troy and MU softball standout Kate (Pratt) Wright.
“It’s rewarding and surprising,” Wright said about the honor. “When I think of all the standout female athletes that have come through the PSAC schools in the last 75 years, there’s no way I thought I would be in the top 75.”
Pratt competed from 2011-2014 and was a 2013 All-American and Academic All-American. She was 4-time All-PSAC, and is the MU all-time leader in extra base hits (96), doubles (50), home runs (41), RBIs (146), and slugging percentage (.743).
Fellow Mounties joining her on the list are Alison Tagliaferri, Gretchen Reschke, and Branae Edwards.
“I remember reading the story on the different categories the PSAC was going to release to celebrate 75 years, and thinking there’s no way I’d be on there, but I was excited to read the athletes who did make it,” said Wright. “To get the message from my sister-in-law that I made it was special, and extremely surprising. It was special to celebrate with my family and my daughters, who were able to be there the other night to see my recognition.”
Wright has plenty of fond memories from her years on the team.
“The freshman year trip to Florida we all stayed in this cottage, and had our own place,” she said. “We also met Dot Richardson. I also threw my first collegiate no hitter, and hit my first collegiate home run.”
Her junior year she recalls how they claimed MU’s first PSAC title in program history.
“I remember leaving Bloomsburg University after splitting a series with them, just missing a win to claim the PSAC title,” explained Wright. “Within five minutes of leaving, we found out that another PSAC school that we needed to lose did, leaving us with a share of the PSAC Central title.”
And then her senior year when they qualified for the Division-II, NCAA Tournament.
“A first in MU history,” Wright said. “The NCAA playoffs ended up being on the same weekend as graduation.”
