NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: BROWN'S BIG GAME LEADS NEB PAST WELLSBORO (December 11, 2025)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWELLSBORO — NEB stayed undefeated as they pulled out a 58-50 win over Wellsboro during NTL boys’ basketball action Thursday.
“This was a gritty win on the road against a tough team,” said NEB coach Paul Burgert. “This game was very physical, and our boys did a great job battling.”
There were wild swings in the action as the two teams combined for 10 points in the second, then came out guns blazing in the third as they amassed 45 points between in the frame.
“I thought our defense in the first half was exceptional; offensively, we just couldn’t get into a good rhythm and shot ourselves in the foot,” remarked Burgert. “The second half, they made some adjustments and attacked us much more effectively, so we have to look at this film, and learn from it, but our hustle and teamwork was outstanding, and I’m very proud of our boys.”
NEB led 42-39 going into the fourth when they out scored the Hornets 16-11, going 7-for-8 from the charity stripe to ice the game.
Cooper Brown had 20 points to lead the Panthers as Dayton Russell netted 11.
Eli Stanton scored nine, Clay Wilks added seven, Daniel Barrett notched six, and Mac Burgert rounded things out with four.
Jonathan Carl led Wellsboro with 14 while Colin Fletcher was also in double figures with 11 points.
NEB led 14-12 after the first quarter as Wilks and Brown had five points apiece.
The two teams dug in during the second quarter as NEB out scored them just 6-4 for the 20-16 lead at the half.
Then came the third quarter blitz with Wellsboro getting the best of them 23-22 behind 10 points from Carl.
Six different Panthers scored, led by seven from Brown, and five out of Stanton.
Brown brought things home in the fourth with seven points while he, Stanton, and Barrett all went 2-for-2 from free throw line in the quarter.
Wellsboro won the JV game 51-36 as Elijaih DeLancey had 10 points to lead the Panthers.
NEB (4-0) hosts Montrose on Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. start.
