NTL WRESTLING: TOWANDA GOES 3-3 AT THEIR DANDY DUALS (December 14, 2025)

Northern Tier Sports Report
TOWANDA — It was an up-and-down day for Towanda wrestling at their annual Dandy Duals Tournament Saturday as the Knights finished 3-3 on the afternoon.

They got wins over NP-Liberty (57-17), Wyoming Area (60-18), and Jersey Shore (42-29), but fell to Wilkes-Barre (36-32), Honesdale (40-32), and Montgomery (62-6).

Two forfeits in the lighter weights appeared to be the difference in their close losses, and they’re still dealing with some injury issues, but Towanda coach Bill Sexton was satisfied with how his kids who were on the mat wrestled.

“That kids that are there did their job,” he said. “Nobody gave in, thing just didn’t go our way in some of our matches. We got a lot of kids a lot of mat time.”

Tanner Vanderpool went 6-0 to lead the Knights, with Bryghton Yale, Hagen Jones, and Gage Evans all going 5-1.

“Vanderpool had a big day,” Sexton said. “Evans had a strong day, his only mishap against the 2-time state champion.”

Reese Sluyter, and Kolton McPeak both went 4-2, as Dominic Miller went 3-3.

Mason Harbst, Jaydon Stranger, Dillan Sbragia, and Finn Brennan all finished 2-4.

In the win over NPL Yale (133) and Sbragia (189) both had falls with McPeak (172) scoring a 15-14 decision over Terrell Rinebold.

Harbst (107), Vanderpool (139), Jones (145), Evans (152), Sluyter (160), Brennan (215), and Miller (285) all had forfeits.

In the loss to Wilkes-Barre Vanderpool (139), Jones (145), Evans (152), and McPeak (189) all had falls as Yale (133) scored a tech fall.

Sluyter (160) earned a 3-2 win over regional qualifier Gene Ardo. It was 2-2 after three periods and overtime, so in tie-breaker Sluyter got an escape, then kept Ardo down for the win.

In the loss to Honesdale Yale (133), Vanderpool (139), and McPeak (172) all had falls with Evans (152) getting a tech.

Sluyter (160) scored a forfeit as Jones (145) earned a 14-10 win over Justin Scanlon.

A Vanderpool (139) fall was their lone win against the Red Raiders, a team that Towanda had a 6-match win streak against going into today.

They rebounded with their win over Wyoming Area as Vanderpool (139), Jones (145), Evans (152), Sluyter (160), McPeak (172), and Stranger (127) all had falls.

Yale (133), Sbragia (189), Brennan (215), and Miller (285) all had falls.

It was an exciting end to the day for the Knights in their tit-for-tat battle with Jersey Shore.

Towanda took an 18-0 lead to start, only to watch Jersey Shore to cut it to 18-17 after four straight wins.

A Miller fall (285) put Towanda up 24-17, only for the Tigers to earn a forfeit for a 24-23 score.

The two teams traded forfeits to make it 30-29, but pins by Stranger (127) and Yale (133) shut the door.

Towanda (4-3) will host Wellsboro on Monday with a lot going on. It’s their Hall of Fame induction night, they celebrate the 70th anniversary of their program, and their girls will host their first ever dual match.

Junior high kicks things off at 5 p.m.
