THE WEEK AHEAD: BUSY ON THE ENDS AS TEAMS TAKE A BREAK FOR CHRISTMAS (December 21, 2025)

Northern Tier Sports Report
It’ll be a split week this week as Christmas breaks things up just as they start getting heated. There will be games Monday and Tuesday, then a three day break, followed by contests picking up on Saturday.

WRESTLING
Monday, December 22

NEB (8-1) at Troy (1-2), 7 p.m.: NEB will be looking to rebound from their loss against Wyalusing last week, while Troy looks to even up their record.

Tuesday, December 23
Central Columbia (1-0) at Towanda (6-3), 4 p.m.: Black Knight coach Bill Sexton goes for the state wins record as the Knights are riding high off their win over Williamson. The Blue Jays come in with a victory over Bloomsburg (45-21).

Canton (1-1) at Wellsboro (0-10), 7 p.m.: The Warriors saw two get on the medal stand last weekend at the Panther Holiday Classic. The Hornets are searching for their first dual win of the season.

Saturday, September 27
Canton at the Turner Holiday Classic: The 2-day tournament will be Saturday and Sunday as the Warriors hit the road for the second weekend in a row.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Monday, December 22

Towanda (6-0) vs Mt. Carmel (3-1) at Hughesville Tournament, 6 p.m.: The Knights face their toughest test yet as they take on a Red Tornadoes team that boasts wins over Selinsgrove and Mifflinburg.

Tuesday, December 23
NPL (1-3) at NEB (7-1), 7:30 p.m.: The Panthers took their first loss of the season against Elk Lake on Saturday. The two teams faced off in the Montgomery Tournament title, with NEB winning 48-43.

Troy (3-2) at Wyalusing (3-3), 7:30 p.m.: It’s been and up-and-down start to the season for both teams. Troy is looking to bounce back from a loss against NEB, while the Rams are coming off a win over Sayre.

Canton (0-5) at CV (1-4), 7:30 p.m.: The Warriors are coming off their best performance yet in a loss to NPM. CV’s lone win came against Austin (64-24), a team Canton lost to at the Galeton Tournament.

Towanda at Hughesville Tournament:
The Knights finish up at the Hughesville Tournament before returning home later in the week.

Saturday, December 27

Troy (3-2) vs Edison at Ernie Davis Academy, 11:45 a.m.: The first round match-up of the Regional Division game at the Josh Palmer Fund. The loser plays on Sunday, while the winner moves to Tuesday.

Sullivan County (5-0) at Towanda (6-0), 2:30 p.m.: A match-up of two of the hottest teams early this season. The Griffins are coming off a win over Meadowbrook last week.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Monday, December 22

NEB (1-2) at Milton (3-3), 7 p.m.: NEB hits the road for the battle of the Panthers. Milton has wins over Benton, Selinsgrove, and Warrior Run.

Wyalusing (2-3) at Waverly, 7:30 p.m.:
Another tough test for the Rams as they battle a slew of talented teams early this season.

NP-Mansfield (2-1) at Canton (3-1), 7:30 p.m.: A big early season match-up for the Warriors, who are coming off a big win over Meadowbrook. NPM has wins over CV and Wellsboro.

Elk Lake at Towanda (4-1), 7:30 p.m.: A tough test for the Knights, who are coming off a close win over Athens last week. 

Saturday, December 27
Towanda (4-1) vs Ithaca at Elmira High School, 1:30 p.m.: The first round of the Girls’ Regional Division-II contest. The loser plays on Monday, the winner on Tuesday.

Troy (3-2) vs St. Mary’s at 5 p.m. at Elmira High School: Troy is in the National Bracket, and will play games throughout the week.

GIRLS’ WRESTLING
Tuesday, December 23

Central Columbia at Towanda (1-0), 3 p.m.: The season opener for the Blue Jays while both teams were at the Hanover Tournament this past weekend. Central Columbia was 10th while Towanda took fourth.
