NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: WYALUSING RALLIES TO BEAT MILTON (December 29, 2025)
Northern Tier Sports ReportHUGHESVILLE — Wyalusing rallied from a 35-22 halftime deficit to beat Milton, 57-53, during the opining round of the Hughesville Girls’ Basketball Tournament Monday.
“It’s very rewarding getting a comeback win,” said Wyalusing’s Alysha Botts. “At halftime we knew we had to be dawgs, and get within striking distance before the fourth quarter. We worked very hard, starting on the defensive end, and cut it down before the fourth. We did all the small things right, worked extremely hard, and persevered through mistakes, and came out with the win. It’s a great feeling for the whole team.”
The Rams out scored Milton 17-9 in the third to cut it to 44-39, then doubled up the Black Panthers, 18-9, in the fourth to nab the win.
“It showed our resilience, and trust in one another,” Treanna Nickeson said. “We stayed together until the final buzzer. We learned that we can handle pressure, and keep our composure when things don’t go our way. We proved we can communicate, and execute when it matters the most.”
Jenna Morningstar netted 13 to lead the Rams, with Emily Johns, and Botts both scoring 12 points each.
Liz Kilmer notched eight, as Nickeson finished with seven. Ireland Coates netted three, and Brinley Sterling chipped in with two.
Carrie King led Milton with 21 points.
Morningstar and Botts had five points apiece in the opening frame, but the Rams still found themselves down by three at the first horn.
Milton doubled them up, 20-10, in the second as six different players scored for the Black Panthers.
In the third Johns and Nickeson got their offense going with five points each to start the comeback. Then in the fourth the Rams went 8-for-11 from the charity stripe as Botts had five points, and Morningstar scored four.
The win snaps a 2-game losing streak that saw the Rams drop two road games against two tough teams.
“All season we have known we have the skill to compete with most teams,” said Botts. “Today, for the first time, we really clicked as a team, though. We learned that communicating as a team enhances our playing, and that sharing the ball, and truly working as a team will allow us to play our best basketball.”
Now they get another shot at Hughesville in the title game Tuesday.
“It’s exciting facing Hughesville again,” said Botts. ‘We have a team of competitors so every time we get to face off with a team of their caliber we look forward to seeing what we can do. Last time we stuck with them in the first half so our goal is to translate that into the second half, and really challenge ourselves.”
