NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: TROY'S LATE RALLY COMES UP SHORT AGAINST AQUINAS (December 30, 2025)
Northern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA, N.Y. — Despite a furious fourth quarter rally Troy fell to Aquinas, 55-49, during the fifth place game at the Josh Palmer Fund Girls’ National Bracket on Tuesday.
The Trojans found themselves down by 12 after one, and 13 at the half. They played Aquinas even in the third, then out scored them 19-12 in the fourth, but never getting it closer than six points.
Giana Renzi had 11 points, including three 3-balls in the fourth quarter, while Raelynne Woodward also had 11 points.
Kyah Renzo netted nine, Haidyn Watson added eight, Izzy Renzi notched six, and Emma Mickley chipped in with four.
An Izzy Renzi 3-ball were the only points Troy got in the first quarter as they struggled to get into their offense. Aquinas was hot from deep, hitting three 3-balls during the frame for the 15-3 lead.
Watson came off the bench to spark the Trojans in the second quarter, netting five points, but Aquinas was able to get to the free throw line, where they went 5-for-6 to keep Troy at arm’s length.
Troy hit seven field goals in the third quarter, behind five points from Renzo, but Aquinas still got to the free throw line, where they went 9-for-12 to keep their double digit lead.
In the final frame, though, Troy got the deficit to single digits halfway through the quarter, then made it a 6-point game off a Giana Renzi 3-ball.
Aquinas scored right after to extend the lead back to eight. The two teams traded points all through the final minutes, with the buzzer ending on a 6-point difference.
Troy (6-3) has a match-up at Waverly on Saturday with an 11:30 a.m. start time.
