NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: TROY NIPS TRUMANSBURG TO WIN BRACKET TITLE AT JOSH PALMER TOURNAMENT (December 30, 2025)

Northern Tier Sports Report
ELMIRA, N.Y. — A young Troy team took some big steps on Tuesday when they rallied to beat Trumansburg, 53-52, to claim their Regional Bracket title at the Josh Palmer Fund Tournament on Tuesday.

The Trojans were down four going into the fourth when they out scored Trumansburg 16-11 to eke out the win.

“This is good, especially for a young team to kind of get a little confidence going into league play,” said Troy coach Craig Sheeley. “It’s always a really well run tournament, and a great opponent, so it’s an exciting thing to do over Christmas break.”

It was a good week for Troy, whose last game was a rough loss to NEB, while their game with Wyalusing before Christmas was postponed.

“Our practices have been really good over break, and, since missing out on the Wyalusing game, I was really happy with how hard the guys have been working, and really starting to come together as a team,” Sheeley said.

Trey Teribury was named MVP after a 15 points, nine rebound, and four assist performance.

“I know I put in the work, but I said without my teammates none of it would be possible,” Trey said.

Troy was down 30-22 going into the locker rooms, and they say that was where the momentum shift happened.

“We really made the decision at halftime to really come together as a team, and up our intensity,” said Trey. “I’m really proud of our guys. There’s still a lot to clean up, but we’re just playing together.”

Josiah Pesesky was also named to the All-tournament team, and had 11 points, and eight boards for Troy, while Pryor Teribury, who was named the sixth man, had 11 points and three boards.

Spencer Martin had one point, and seven assists, as Landon Cole, and Evan Allen each had five points. Cole also grabbed five boards.

James Roy, and Aiden Lawrence had two points each, with Cameron Morey scoring one.

Arlo Peake had 23 to lead Trumansburg.

Trumansburg jumped out to a 13-10 first quarter lead with Pryor Teribury, Trey Teribury, and Cole all hitting 3-balls for the Trojans.

Trumansburg had seven field goals in the second quarter - three of them 3-balls - as they out scored Troy 17-12 to extend their lead.

The Trojans began their comeback in the third as they out scored Trumansburg 15-11 behind six points from Pesesky, and a 5-for-6 performance from the charity stripe out of Allen.

The Teribury’s led the charge in the fourth as Pryor and Trey combined for 13 of the team’s 16 in the final frame to get the win.

Troy (5-2) will travel to Waverly on Saturday for a 12:45 p.m. start, then opens NTL play with Towanda the following week.

“We have Towanda Tuesday, Athens Thursday, and then we’re going to make up the Wyalusing game on Saturday, so we’ve got a busy week,” Sheeley said. “It’s going to be a busy schedule, but I think the guys are getting where they need to be.”
