NTL BOYS' TRACK & FIELD: CANTON SWEEPS NP-MANSFIELD, NEB (April 13, 2021)

CANTON — The Canton boys’ track and field team swept the field with 83 points during an NTL tri-meet Tuesday. NP-Mansfield (55) was second with NEB (33) taking third in their season opener.

The Warriors bested the field in the sprints (17 points), hurdles (six points) and jumps (28 points). NEB dominated the throws (18 points), with NPM scoring the most in distance (17) and relays (13).


In the 110 hurdles NEB’s Austin Kithcart (20.8) won with Canton’s Dylan Smith (30.7) second. Smith (1:03.6) was third in the 300 hurdles.


The Warriors went 1-2 in the 100 with Connor Foust (12.0) and Mason Shultz (12.6). Teammate Isaiah Niemczyk (56.3) won the 400. Foust (25.4) won the 200 with Kithcart (26.0) third.


The Canton 4x400 relay of Foust, Ostrander, Niemczyk and Will Gowin won in 3:57.2


Niemczyk (18-feet, 5 1/2-inches) and Foust (17-feet, 5 1/4-inches) went 1-2 in the long jump. 


The Warriors swept the triple jump with Williams (37-feet, 8-inches), Niemczyk (35-feet, 3/4-inches) and Hunter Ostrander (34-feet, 6-inches).


Williams (5-feet, 8-inches) and Kithcart (5-feet. 6-inches) went 1-2 in the high jump.


Canton’s duo of Ostrander (2:21.9) and Michael Skipper (2:22.4) took second and third in the 800. Ostrander (6-feet) won the pole vault.


In the 3200 Canton’s Hunter Huffman (15:59.8) was second.


For the Panthers Dan Seeley (119-feet, 2-inches) won the discus with Canton’s Caiden Williams (108-feet, 5-inches) second. Seeley (41-feet, 3 3/4-inches) also won the shot put followed by Williams (38-feet, 5 1/2-inches) and Warrior Derek Atherton-Ely (38-feet, 2 1/2-inches).


Panther Dan Williams (136-feet, 9-inches) won the javelin with Atherton-Ely (132-feet, 4-inches) second.


NEB’s Joey Bevacqua (5:48.1) came in second in the 1600.
