COLLEGE: AREA GRADUATES COMPETE OVER THE HOLIDAY SEASON (January 4, 2026)

Each wrestler is different, as is each college’s approach. In our area, some of our wrestlers are in action. Sullivan County’s Colton Wade and Clarion at the Southern Scuffle; Towanda’s Mason Higley and Kent State at the Bobby Kaufman Open at Edinboro; and Williamson’s Kade Sottolano for Lock Haven at the Armbar Duals.
Sullivan County’s Colton Wade and Clarion made the trip to Tennessee for the Southern Scuffle. In the round of 32, Wade faced Brendan Ferretti of the University of Pennsylvania. Wade would lose by fall in 3:33 to drop to the consolation rounds. In the consi round 16 #, Wade squared off against Luke Passerelli of Davidson, where Wade secured the decision 5-0. In the consi round of 16 #2, Wade received the win by medical forfeit over Richie Figueroa to move on. Wade faced Raymond Lopez of American University in the consi round of 8 #1, where Wade lost by fall in 5:43. Wade finished his tournament 2-2.
Towanda’s Mason Higley was in action at Edinboro. In the opening round of 16, Higley lost by a major decision of 11-0 to Jack Wehmeyer of Columbia. In the consi round 8 #1, Higley received a medical forfeit win over Nate Stone of Mercyhurst. In the cons round 8 #2, Higley squared off against Nick Lodato of Edinboro, where he earned the major decision 13-4. Higley faced Jake Conroy of Spartan Combat RTC in the consi round of 4, again earning the win this time by fall in 1:40 to move onto the consi semis.
Facing Evan Wingrove of Ohio University, Higley loses by fall in 2:05. In the fifth-place match, Higley faced Gavin Hannah of Bloomsburg (Unattached), where he would earn the technical fall 22-1 in 7:00 to finish fifth overall in the 197-pound weight class. Williamson’s Kade Sottolano and Lock Haven were at the Journeymen Armbar Tournament. In the first round, Lock Haven faced off against Binghamton. Sottolano faced off against Trent Sibble, where he would earn the 5-3 decision to help his team win 27-9. In the next round, Lock Haven faced Princeton, where Sottolano squared off against Sebastian Garbaldi, and again, Sottolano comes up with the decision 4-0 to close out the dual. Loch Haven wins the dual 28-6. In round 3, Lock Haven faced Hofstra.
