NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: TOUGH FOURTH QUARTER HAUNTS WYALUSING IN LOSS TO NP-MANSFIELD (January 8, 2026)
Northern Tier Sports ReportMANSFIELD — For the second game in a row Wyalusing led going into the fourth quarter, but couldn’t hold it, as they fell 52-48 to NP-Mansfield in NTL boys’ hoops action Thursday.
The Rams led 41-36 after three but were out scored 16-7 in the final frame.
"Another classic this week that we just came up short," said Wyalusing coach Brent Keyes. "Both teams left it out there, close throughout."
Myles Kershner had a career high 20 points behind five 3-pointers to lead Wyalusing.
"He has had a big week, but, ultimately, that is what we expect from him," Keyes said. "he has worked really hard on his game, and I'm very proud of him, and happy for him that he is finding success."
Tyler Caplan was also in double figures with 12.
Noah Kilmer scored nine, Shay Gartland added five, and Jared VandeMark rounded out the scorers with two.
Jason Harer had 22 to lead NPM.
They were fit to be tied after the first quarter, with both teams netting 15 points.
Kershner hit two 3-balls en route to eight points to lead Wyalusing.
The Rams eked out a halftime lead of 28-26 as they hit three 3-pointers in the second quarter - two by Kershner, one from Gartland.
They extended that lead thanks to a 13-10 run in the third as Kilmer nailed two 3-balls.
In the fourth, though, NPM had their best quarter yet, with Andy Hermansen scoring seven points, and Harer netting five.
"I'm really proud of the guys," said Keyes. "It's been a tough week, but we have come a long way in a short time. We have shown a lot of toughness the past few nights. A classic high school basketball game tonight. We will be better for having had these past two close games as the season goes on."
Wyalusing (3-5) will return home after nearly a month when they host Troy on Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. start.
