NTL WRESTLING: TOWANDA TAKES SECOND AT THEIR FLYNN DUALS (January 11, 2026)

Northern Tier Sports Report
TOWANDA — Towanda went 4-1 to take second at their Flynn Duals on Saturday, coming up just short to Port Allegany in the round robin format.

“I’d rather go 5-0 and take first, but all in all, it was a well wrestled day,” Towanda coach Bill Sexton said. “I thought we wrestled very well today. Right from the get go we got going on Troy, and then had a real good comeback against Delone Catholic. They got off to an impressive lead against us, but our kids knocked down, and took it to them and got us back in it. I thought we wrestled a competitive match with Port Allegany. Tanner (Vanderpool) getting hurt before the match, that didn’t help us in that one, and then (Hagen) Jones getting hurt in that match kind of swung some things. That’s not making excuses, I think they probably were the better team, but I think we could have been a lot closer, and maybe had a chance. I think we rebounded well from that - we took it to Western Wayne, and Sullivan County afterwards, so I’ll take 4-1.”

The Knights opened by beating Troy 58-10, then rallied from a 25-0 deficit to top Delone Catholic 48-25.

Port Allegany edged them 35-27, with the Knights beating Western Wayne (57-12), and Sullivan County (48-21) to end the day.

Gage Evans, Reese Sluyter, and Kolton McPeak all went 5-0 on the day for Towanda, as Dillon Sbragia went 4-0.

Mason Harbst, Finn Brennan, and Hagen Jones all going 4-1, with Brayden Fessenden, and Bryghton Yale each going 3-2.

Tanner Vanderpool went 1-1, as Jayden Stranger finished 2-3. Dom Miller finished 1-4, Lydinn Bailey went 0-2, with Hunter Williams, and Aidan Blokzyl both finishing 0-1.

In the win over Troy Yale (133), Vanderpool (139), Jones (145), Evans (152), McPeak (172), and Brennan (215) all got falls as Fessenden (121), Stranger (127), and Sbragia (189) all had forfeits.

Sluyter (160) scored a 9-0 major.

Against Delone Jones (145), Evans (152), McPeak (189), and Brennan (215) all had falls, with Sluyter (160), Sbragia (172), Harbst (107), and Miller (285) all had forfeits.

In the loss to Port Evans (152), Sluyter (160), McPeak (172), and Harbst (107) all had falls, as Yale (139) scored an 18-8 major decision.

In the win over Western Wayne Stranger (127), Yale (133), Jones (145), Sbragia (172), McPeak (189), Brennan (215), and Fessenden (121) all had falls, as Harbst (107) scored a forfeit.

Sluyter (152), and Evans (160) each had a tech fall.

In the win over the Griffins Jones (145), Evans (152), Sluyter (160), McPeak (172), Brennan (215), and Harbst (107) all had falls, as Fessenden (121), and Sbragia (189) each had forfeits.

It’ll be another busy week for Towanda with Warrior Run on Wednesday, followed by a trip down river to Wyalusing on Friday.

“We had a lot of kids that have been banged up early in the year coming off injuries, even from preseason before the season, and I think we’re starting to round into match shape,” Sexton said. “We got some really solid matches out of Gage Evans today, got some matches out of Reese Sluyter today. They’re the two question marks coming in. I thought Jones wrestled real tough today until he popped a little injury there that cost him a match, but he’s been going good. Tanner, Stranger, they’ve both been wrestling well for us, and some of our younger kids have been coming on. I’ve been pleased with McPeak, and I’ve been pleased with Finn Brennan here in the last couple of matches, showing some stuff that we’re working on in the room is paying off. These kids are getting into match shape, and hopefully we can keep it rolling.”
