NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: NEB USES BIG FOURTH QUARTER TO DOWN MUNCY (January 12, 2026)
Northern Tier Sports ReportROME — For the third straight year NEB has edged Muncy in their regular season match-up, rallying in the fourth for a 35-30 win during girls’ hoops action.
The loss is the first for the season for the defending District IV, Class AA champions, and NEB did it despite starter, Kara Dughi, not getting back from a field trip until halftime, and battling foul trouble.
The Panthers have lost to Muncy in the district title game the past two seasons.
“A good win against a great defensive team,” said NEB coach Ben Beebe. “Our girls had their work cut out tonight to get open, and to find shots. I’m super proud of how we kept our composure, and got it done.”
Leah Beebe had 15 points, 13 of them in the second half, to lead the Panthers, while Aurelia Kolesar added seven points, four boards, two steals, and three assists.
Katrina Russell had eight points, with three rebounds, as Sarah Gray had three points.
Mallorie Maynard, Dughi, and Izzy Kapr had two points apiece, with Maynard grabbing seven rebounds, and Kapr getting three.
Ava Eyer had 12 points for Muncy as Anna Zalonis scored 10.
Muncy took a 12-7 first quarter lead behind six from Zalonis, but NEB held them to just four second quarter points to make it a 16-13 score at the half. Koelssar had four to lead the Panthers.
NEB closed some more, out scoring Muncy 7-5 behind six points from Beebe, as it was a 21-20 game going into the fourth.
The Panthers erupted for 15 points in the fourth behind seven from Beebe to take the win.
NEB won the JV game 31-5 behind eight points from each of Kapr, and Kamryn McPherson.
NEB (8-2) will host CV on Wednesday.
