NTL WRESTLING: ALEXANDER EARNS 100TH WIN BUT NEB FALLS AGAINST ATHENS (January 14, 2026)

ROME — NEB’s Mason Alexander earned his 100th career win, but the Panthers fell to Athens, 45-18, during NTL wrestling action Wednesday.

The Wildcats won nine matches to NEB’s three as they pulled away.

Hunter Comstock (133), Kale Howland (160), and Alexander (114) all had falls for the Panthers.

The match of the night was 189 when Athens’ Brendan Cooke 4-1 over NEB’s Asher Kolesar in sudden victory.

Zaine Campbell (127), Wyatt Clink (139), and Connor Davidson (172) all had falls, with Landon Layman (215), Brenden Comstock (285), and Joshua Saxon (107) all getting forfeits.

Lucas Persun (145) had a major decision over Alex Gomez, 21-8, while David Janiszeski (152) scored a 13-6 win over Connor Eastabrook.

“Forfeits definitely hurt, but we’ve got to wrestle, too,” NEB coach Curt Cole said. “We can’t sugar coat it, we got out wrestled.”

Alexander got a fall over Athens’ Chace VanDyke in 3:06 to hit triple digits.

“I’m glad they bumped up the VanDyke boy, so that was good,” Cole said. “He did what he was supposed to do.”

NEB (10-4) will host Canton on Friday.
