COLLEGE: TOWANDA'S HIGLEY GOES 4-2 AT INVITE (January 19, 2026)
BY BRYAN SEYMOURNorthern Tier Sports ReportGetting more mat time over the weekend was Towanda’s Mason Higley as Kent State traveled to the Purple Raider Open. The way to learn anything is to continue to practice and work hard. Higley is putting the time in and getting on the mat.
Higley opened his tournament with Coen Grimm of West Virginia. After 7:00 minutes and a 1-1 tie, Higley headed into sudden victory, where he would surrender the takedown and take the 4-1 decision loss.
Dropping down to the consolation bracket, Higley faced Jaxon Lane of Mount Union in consolation round 2. It was Higley coming out on top with the fall in 1:04 to move on to the next round.
In consolation round 3, Higley squared off against Edinboro’s James Mahon. Once again, Higley finds himself coming away with a win by fall in 1:10. Next up in the consolation round 4, Higley faced Quinn Gorman of Lake Erie. And once again, Higley was in the pinning mood as he came away with the fall in 1:51.
In the consolation round 5, Higley matched up with Edinboro’s Nick Ladato. This time, Higley went the distance and grinded out the 3-1 decision victory. In the consolation semis, Higley met Demond Harrison of Michigan State. After 7:00 minutes, Higley came up short and took the loss by major decision 10-0. Dropping to the fifth-place match, Higley was to face Coen Grimm from West Virginia in a rematch. However, with the 6-match-day limit, Higley’s match would be a no-contest. Higley ends his day 4-2.
