NTL BASKETBALL: A LOOK THE NTL DIVISIONAL RACES (January 26, 2026)

Northern Tier Sports Report
As we go into the final week of January the NTL hoops races are starting to narrow - except maybe the Large School boys as there are four teams still alive - with some familiar faces near the top.

LARGE SCHOOL BOYS
Towanda (8-2), Athens (7-3), NP-Mansfield (7-3), and Troy (6-4) are still alive for a division title.

There is one cross-over game left, and for the Black Knights its a doozy, as they head to NEB on Wednesday.

Troy has a tough one as they head to NP-Liberty, NP-Mansfield is at Williamson, and Athens travels to Sayre.

Divisional play ramps up this Friday with Athens at Towanda, Wyalusing at Troy, and NP-Mansfield welcomes their rivals Wellsboro.

That could make the divisional picture less murky, or even more murky. It’s been that kind of season so far.

SMALL SCHOOL BOYS
This division title has come down to two teams, NEB (10-1), and NP-Liberty (8-3).

This is a big week for NEB as they host Towanda on Wednesday, then travel to NP-Liberty on Friday. A 2-0 week for the Panthers pretty much sews up the title, however, two losses could put the Mounties in the driver’s seat - though they host Troy on Wednesday.

NPL won their first meeting back in early January.

LARGE SCHOOL GIRLS
Troy (10-0) has blown through the NTL so far this season, especially after the New Year where they’ve won every game by 20 points or more.

Towanda (8-2) and Wyalusing (8-2) are the chase pack, with both falling to Troy the first time around. The Knights also have a loss to NP-Mansfield, while the Rams fell to Towanda.

On Tuesday Troy hosts NPL, Towanda welcomes NEB, and Wyalusing brings in CV.  On Thursday Troy travels to Wyalusing, while Towanda is at Athens.

Troy will bring Towanda over to the Commons Building early next week.

SMALL SCHOOL GIRLS
NEB (8-2) is on pace to bring home divisional title number seven, sitting two games ahead of Canton (6-4).

The Panthers won the first meeting, so a win against them next week would seal the deal.

This week, though, NEB has to get through Towanda, whom Canton nearly upset last week.

The Panthers also play NP-Liberty for the first time on Friday.

Canton hosts Wellsboro on Tuesday, then travels to CV on Thursday.
