NTL WRESTLING: WYALUSING ROLLS PAST SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT AND INTO D4 QUARTERS (January 29, 2026)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WYALUSING — Wyalusing made quick work of South Williamsport, besting the Mounties 54-16 during the first round of the District IV Duals Wednesday.

The win sets up a quarterfinal date with Montgomery on Saturday, at Milton, with an 11 a.m. start time.

“Coming out of last night, we wrestled Horseheads, and we didn’t have our best showing,” said Wyalusing coach David Patrick. “Not our full line-up, we had some guys out - tonight was the most important one to win. The kids were prepared.”

The Rams won 10 of the 13 bouts and had the match clinched after 152 pounds.

“We knew with the forfeit down low there was a possibility, with the flip, that they were going to kind of move it around, try to get that pin, and keep it even. But the ones we needed to win we won, and we won with bonus points.”

Isaiah Harvey (121), Bostyn McMicken (127), Griffin Sheldon (139), Reuben Kinney (145), and Daniel Fox (215) all had falls for Wyalusing, with Logan Wood (107) scoring a forfeit.

Cole Patrick (133), and Brenden Wells (285) both notched tech falls, as Jonathan Earle (152), and Ethan Vanderpool (189) each had a major decision.

Cade Lusk (160) had a fall for South Williamsport, as Garrett Bacorn (115), and Jayden Hamm (172) each had a tech.

Wood gave the Rams a 6-0 lead with his forfeit, followed by Bacorn scoring the 15-0 tech fall over Austin Jones in 5:32.

Harvey made quick work of Wes Hamman in 40 seconds, then came the matches that mattered.

At 127 McMicken got the first takedown on South’s Taylor Naugle for a 3-1 lead after the first period. McMicken opened the second with an escape, but Naugle tied it up with a takedown.

McMicken reversed him late, then got the fall in 3:57 to make it 18-5 Rams.

Patrick returned after missing the Horseheads match and racked up a 16-1 win in 4:11 over Jackson Bower to make it a 23-5 Wyalusing advantage.

“The kids feed off him, and he’s definitely a leader,” coach Patrick said bout Cole. “He helps get the kids warmed up and focused. Missing that out of the atmosphere, it definitely changes it.”

Then came the second match the Rams were looking to pull out, with Sheldon getting an early takedown on Jonah Caputo. Caputo got an escape, and a takedown himself for a 4-3 lead after one.

The two traded penalty points in the second, followed by Sheldon getting an escape, but Caputo got another takedown for an 8-5 lead.

In the third Sheldon got the takedown, and took him to his back for the fall in 4:32 to extend the lead to 29-5.

Kinney got a 24 second fall over Bungo Kayne to push South to the brink, 35-5.

At 152 Earle came out strong, using a cradle to go up 7-0 on South’s Garrett Lorson. Lorson got back into it with a takedown in the second, cutting it to 9-3.

Earle, though, got it back in the third, as he ended up with the 12-4 win, sealing the match.

Lusk’s fall over Holden Patrick in 1:38 ended the drought for South, while Hamm won 19-3 over Conner Earle in 4:12.

Vanderpool used a pair of takedown to go up 6-1 over Cole Gerber in the first period at 189. He pushed it to 9-1, but Gerber turned the tables with an escape, takedown, and a full set of back points to make it 9-9.

Vanderpool recovered, getting an escape, and a takedown for a 13-9 lead. He added six more points in the third for the 10-point win.

Fox would pin Ben Werner in 1:50, then Wells scored a 19-4 tech fall over Oz Bird in 1:30 to put the finishing touches on the match.

The Rams will now face a familiar foe in Montgomery, who bested them in their season opener.

“We’re all going to need to be up and ready to go, especially with Montgomery,” coach Patrick said. “We wrestled them early in the season, and we know what to expect. We’re a little different line-up now than then, so we’ll just see what we need to do.”
