NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: BIG THIRD QUARTER PUSHES TOWANDA PAST ATHENS (January 29, 2026)
Northern Tier Sports ReportATHENS — Towanda rebounded from their tough loss earlier in the week to beat Athens, 48-37, during NTL girls’ hoops action Thursday.
The Wildcats held a 13-7 first quarter lead, but Towanda turned the tables on them in the second, out scoring them 12-4 for a 19-17 advantage going into the locker rooms.
A 17-10 third quarter run from the Knights put them up nine, then in the fourth they out scored Athens 12-10 to secure the win.
Payton Perry had 13 points, and five steals to lead Towanda, as Brynn Woodruff netted 11 points, six boards, four assists, and three blocks.
Reese Sullivan added seven points, as Taylor Aquilio and Kennedy Heyer had five points apiece. Heyer also had two steals.
Karis Flynn, and Mya Maynard both scored three, as Maynard grabbed five boards to go with five steals, while Flynn nabbed three steals.
Maris Cobb chipped in with one point, while Mary-Kate Eberlin had three steals.
McKenna Jarvis had 18 to lead Athens.
Jarvis went off for seven points to lead the Wildcats out of the gates.
In the second quarter Heyer netted all five of her points, while Woodruff scored four as the Knights took the 2-point lead at the half.
Perry had a big third quarter with seven points, as Sullivan notched five to give Towanda a 36-27 lead going into the final frame.
In the fourth Towanda went 5-for-10 from the free throw line to secure the win.
Towanda won the JV game 37-22 behind 10 from Sullivan, and nine out of Eberlin.
Towanda (14-4) travels to Troy on Tuesday of next week.
