COLLEGE: TROY'S SEYMOUR GETS WIN AGAINST ARMY (February 1, 2026)
BY BRYAN SEYMOURNorthern Tier Sports ReportCollege wrestling has taken us in many directions this weekend. Troy graduate Sheldon Seymour and Lehigh University traveled to West Point, New York, to take on the Black Knights of Army West Point. Williamson graduate Kade Sottolano and Lock Haven hosted George Mason. While Sullivan County graduate Kruz McCusker was at the All-State Invite at Lycoming College.
Starting things off at Army West Point, Sheldon Seymour is set to lead the Mountain Hawks. Wrestling a familiar opponent in Charlie Farmer, Seymour would take the early 3-0 lead after the first period. After the second period, a Farmer escaped to take a 3-1 lead into the third period. AN early escape by Seymour in the third to take a 4-1 lead. Adding a second takedown to take the 7-1 lead before letting Farmer up to make the score 7-2, Seymour wasn’t finished as he pushed for the third takedown. Getting the third takedown as time expired to make the score 10-1 and adding in the ride time point to take the major decision 11-1 to give Lehigh the 4-0 lead. A lead which they would not surrender, and in the end, the final score was 29-11. Lehigh is back in action Friday as they travel to Morgan State.
Lock Haven hosted George Mason in a conference match. At heavyweight, it was Kade Sottolano taking on Herbert Billups. Sottolano used 4 first period takedowns to three escapes to take the 12-3 lead after the first period. Starting the second period from the neutral position, Sottolano used three more takedowns to two escapes to win by technical fall 21-5 in 4:11. Lock Haven wins the dual 27-14.
