NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: TOWANDA TOPS WELLSBORO, ONE WIN AWAY FROM LEAGUE TITLE (February 6, 2026)

WELLSBORO — Towanda gutted out a 37-28 win over Wellsboro to stay in first place in the NTL Large School standings on Friday during NTL boys hoops action.

Athens won, too, so for the Knights to clinch the league title they’ll need to beat NP-Mansfield at home on Monday.

Towanda led 17-10 at the half, with the Hornets rallying in the third to cut it to 26-24. In the final frame the Knights out scored them 11-4 to get the win.

Markell Garner had 12 points to lead Towanda, as Boom Thompson, and Josh Maye netted seven points each.

Darrius Farrell added six, with Lucas Vincent netting five.

Colin Fletcher had 11 to lead the Hornets.

Towanda jumped out to a 10-4 first quarter lead behind four points from Maye and Garner each.

Garner scored six of the Knights’ seven second points as they took the 7-point lead at the half.

Fletcher hit two 3-balls, while Jonathan Carl also had six, to lead Wellsboro’s rally in the third. Thompson had seven to pace Towanda.

Farrell scored all six of his points in the final frame to bring home the win.

Wellsboro won the JV game 46-29. Ryan Maynard had nine points to lead Towanda.

Towanda (17-4) ends the regular season when they host NP-Mansfield on Monday.
