NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: TOWANDA HOLDS OFF NP-LIBERTY RALLY (February 12, 2026)
Northern Tier Sports ReportTOWANDA — Towanda survived a NP-Liberty rally to win 58-51 in the first round of the NTL Showcase boys’ basketball tournament on Thursday.
The Knights led 14-8 after one, and by as much as 10 before NPL cut it to 27-20 at the half.
Towanda kept them at arm’s length until about two minutes left when NPL cut it to 51-47. The Knights out scored them 7-4 the rest of the way to get the win.
Darrius Farrell had 18 points to lead Towanda with Markell Garner scoring 14.
Keegan Stroud had nine points, with Boom Thompson and Landon Clark each getting six. Josh Maye notched five points to round out the scorers.
Luke Kreger and Conner Lewis had 17 points each to lead the Mounties.
Garner and Farrell combined for 10 points to pace the Knights in the opening frame as they took a 6-point lead.
The two teams went back and forth throughout the second quarter, though the Knights built a 24-14 lead with 2:12 left in the half.
NPL would rally, out scoring them 6-3 down the stretch to keep it close.
Towanda would build a 39-28 lead late in the third quarter, and still had a 42-34 advantage going into the fourth.
NPL would score six straight in the fourth at one point to make it a 4-point but a Farrell drive with 1:40 on the clock extended the advantage to 53-47.
After an NPL free throw Garner had an And-1 on a lay-up to make it 56-48 with 1:19 left.
A Lewis 3-ball with 49 seconds left gave NPL some hope it he cut it to five points, but that’s as close as they got.
Towanda will face Athens at Mansfield University after the girls’ game for the NTL Showcase title. The girls game starts at 6:30 p.m.
