COLLEGE: TROY GRAD SEYMOUR GOES 2-0 AT LEHIGH'S SENIOR WEEKEND (February 17, 2026)
BY BRYAN SEYMOURNorthern Tier Sports ReportOne last weekend back in Lehigh for the final two duals of the home season for Troy’s Sheldon Seymour and the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. Hosting back-to-back duals with the University of Penn and conference foe Bucknell.
On Friday night University of Penn came to town. In this dual Seymour would be taking on Davis Motyka. In the irony of this match, Seymour and Motyka have been long-time travel teammates dating back over a decade. After the introductions and time to get this last ride started, it was Seymour being introduced to the home crowd. Seymour made his way to the mat, and hands were shaken. The first whistle blew, and the duel had started. Working through and feeling each other out, it was Seymour who scored the bout’s opening takedown to take a 3-0 lead. After a stoppage for injury for Motyka, Seymour chose the down position and would earn the escape to take a 4-0 lead. However, after Seymour pressed for another takedown, the match was started for another injury signal for Motyka. After a brief discussion between Motyka, his coaches, and training staff, the match would be called. Seymour would get the injury default win to give the Mountain Hawks the lead 6-0. From there, Lehigh lost the next 4 bouts to be down 14-6 at the break. Coming out of the break, Lehigh was able to string together 5 straight wins, including a hard-fought sudden-victory win for Seymour’s roommate, JT. Davis, who put Lehigh in the lead heading into the last bout, 19-14. Lehigh’s heavyweight ends the dual with a technical fall to make the team score 24-14.
Lehigh is back in action on Saturday as it hosts Bucknell in Senior Day. The last home duel for Seymour. Lehigh will be on the road for the last dual of the season as they travel to Arizona State on Saturday, February 21. Then it will be the EIWA Conference finals and the NCAA. So sit back and enjoy the last ride for Troy’s Sheldon Seymour on his journey with Lehigh.
Starting at 125 pounds one last time and leading the Mountain Hawks against the Bison, the stage was set for Seymour. One last time at Grace Hall, “The Snake Pit”, Sheldon Seymour, making this match a little more bittersweet. The last time walking out in front of the home crowd. As the introductions of the wrestlers, the music starts to play. With his Star Wars-themed walk-out music playing, Seymour walked to the mat one last time, slapping the hands of his coaches. He was met in the middle by Bucknell’s Kade Davidheiser. The first whistle blew, and after a tie-up between both wrestlers, a stalemate was called. On the restart, Seymour didn’t waste any time taking control. Seymour felt the pressure from his opponent and hit a lefty headlock and put his opponent straight to his back to take the lead 7-0. On the restart, Seymour used three different sets of tilts to earn 3 different sets of back points to earn the 16-0 technical fall in 2:54 to give Lehigh the 5-0 lead.
With his hand raised for the last time in Grace Hall, and the crowd rising to their feet in appreciation of Seymour, Seymour raised both hands in the air to say thank you to all the fans and supporters. Lehigh went on to win the dual over Bucknell 21-16 to end conference matches undefeated. Lehigh heads out west to take on Arizona St. in the last dual before the EIWA Conference and NCAA Championships.
