NTL WRESTLING: NEB'S KOLESAR TAKES HOME DISTRICT BRONZE; ALEXANDER, COMSTOCK MOVE ON TO REGIONALS (February 22, 2026)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWILLIAMSPORT — NEB saw three wrestlers reach the podium at the District IV Boys Wrestling Championships, led by freshman Asher Kolesar’s third place finish Saturday. Kolesar (189), Mason Alexander (114), and Hunter Comstock (127) will be advancing to the Northeast Regional Tournament next weekend.
Kolesar lost his semifinal match by fall to Montoursville’s Hayden Harvey, but came back with a 14-7 win over Wyalusing’s Ethan Vanderpool in the consolation semifinals.
In the bronze medal match he pulled out a 7-5 win over Southern Columbia’s Greg Fulmer.
“I put in a lot of hard work all off-season to get to this point,” Kolesar remarked. “I had a loss at sectionals, a kid that I could have beat, but I came back this weekend and got my redemption. I’m ready to go to regionals next weekend, and go to states.”
He’s going to prepare himself mentally for another grueling two days.
“This is just a mental game,” he said. “Making sure my mind is right. I believe in my training, I believe in my coaching staff, I believe in my faith. That’s probably my biggest thing is just staying sharp, and getting ready.”
Alexander lost his semifinal match 13-4 to Southern Columbia’s Rowen Humphrey, but bounced back with a 43 second pin over Midd-West’s Mason Kerstetter.
Alexander lost the third place bout 18-2 to Montgomery’s Gabe Oberheim.
The senior also took home the Max H Scheider Award.
Comstock battled through the consolations to take sixth, beginning with a 19-5 win over Line Mountain’s Ace Shipe.
He followed that up by pinning Mt. Carmel’s Thomas Berezovske in 4:31 to get to the consolation semifinals.
There he lost 21-3 to Mifflinburg’s Jack Gramly, then lost 19-4 to Williamson’s Hunter Simonds to finish sixth.
Alex Gomez (145) came up just short of a regional berth, taking eighth overall.
He got a 9-3 win over Wyalusing’s Reuben Kinney in the first round of consolations, but then lost 10-0 to Loyalsock’s Ivan Baker in the consolation quarterfinals.
In the seventh place match he was pinned by Southern Columbia’s Gavin Richard.
Connor Eastabrook (152) and Kale Howland (160) both went 0-2 on the weekend.
